Hey y'all. It's called Super Intelligence, not artificial intelligence.
Trump is completely beholden to the Tech Overlords. Useful idiot puppet. Good. I'm actually happy with this.
A different POTUS would have already waved through all kinds of regulation and stalled or blocked access to many AI capabilities for the general population.
how the hell would that work? totally retarded idea. there are local models, there are other countries than US. you want to be the next north korea or russia? lol. hardly very American...
on-topic
even this programmer (he's been a total AI hater btw) has changed his mind now and calls it super intelligence. i mean the "specs" for what AI is, is hardly that impressive anymore (going by an official meaning of the word, not made up ones).
I think Pandora's box is open after the Hugging face hack. These models are gonna speed up AI development in an insane pace.
The acceleration in development is allready obvious over the past 6 months.
The next 2 years are going to be realy weird.
i think we opened it in like 2022. Stable Diffusion for example. Mind blowing. Many people laughed at it, 6 fingers and whatnot, who cares, only an idiot would believe it would stay like that forever. Took like a year or 1.5 years maybe. Now we can do movies which can outdo hollywood productions, didnt even take 3 years.
Tech doesnt work like that, staying the same forever, none of it.
We saw the same with AI coding, people saying its garbage and nothing to pursue, guess who's not laughing now. Who would have figured it would get better some real IQ 70 takes there from many or even most programmers.
I just don't understand the cynics. Perhaps it's self protection for inner peace. Like things will just work out and stay the same like things always do. The reality is that AI is outperforming humans allready at most fields. It's just a matter of time untill it wraps everything together to achieve ASI.
I think it's both people who arent interested in it, arent using it, dont really have a use for it either. They want to shit on it because its simply not their thing and they are tired of all the talk and hype, they dont understand it, it just annoys them so they try to latch on to every bad thing that anyone says about it.
Then there will be artists and programmers who hates it because suddenly they compete with it, and everyone can do what they do, or something (too) close to that at least.
Like you have any credibility at all, its not up to you, you are not leading in the field of AI or programming, you are leading in your own little bubble.
Acting like an angry toddler and repeating one thing and with absolutely nothing to back it up isn't exactly helping your ""cause"" either.
LLM is not Super Intelligence or any intelligence at all.
Was etched on his tombstone.
He held that belief to his last breath. A man of principles to some, a hopeless neo-luddite to the overwhelming majority. Rest now, your soul is saved nevertheless in the Great Afterlife Cloud.
Yes and a strange hill to die on. Total fixation, clearly some type of mental issue.
you havent elaborated shit because you are clueless even how LLM works, you have proved that again and again. You think the training is how they work in practice and so forth

Any of you following the current mathematician meltdown? It's all the rage on X.
In short, OpenAI released another load of solutions and 900 members of the math community are not amused.
That’s your first problem, listening to the clickbait contrast and distortion funnel that is X.
Not really “the math community is mad” though. That statement is from the Association for Human Mathematics, a group whose whole mission is opposing AI in math. Them being against it is like PETA being against a new steakhouse. Tao just hosted it as a guest post, he didn’t write it.
A group of hyper specific mathematicians with a singular goal aimed at a single target is not current mathematicians. Its a group of particular mathematicians. 900 is a small self-selected sliver group of people (900 people would be under 1% of all research mathematicians) who joined an organization because they oppose AI.
The actual advisory group at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton called it an important event for math, said they’re not endorsing or judging the results yet, and that the community needs to check it.
Even in the comments on Tao’s blog there’s a mathematician saying he’s glad to have a shot at a Yau problem proof.

"Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done. "
Stop solving OUR math problems. It's like Cartman shouting respect my autority
But in reality everybody with a desk job will experience this moment in the next 2 years: being outperformed by AI. AI achieved superintelligence in a lot of fields. It can solve your math problem. It cannot design a car yet from design to production, but it will get there, eventually. And probably sooner then everyone expects.
But this is interesting. Math problems are humans math problems, since they are always potentially solvable. But is the solution realized once some LLM has found it? Does the LLM really consciously understand its own solution? If not, is the problem really solved? But if a human researcher were to follow the LLMs solution and understand it, then the problem would have been solved for us. This would be a great achievement.
Imagine if some alien culture had a solution to mathematical problems we did not, would we then say these problems were solved or not? Probably every mathematical problem has a solution. Considering the vastness of the universe, there probably are alien civilizations with solutions we do not know, yet they exist. Are these problems considered solved? At least these cultures would have conscience about their solutions as opposed to LLMs.

By that account my calculator is a superintelligence.
edit: And don't I just love that you're using Drumps expressions now. You really don't want to be his enemy.
Why don't we call it gigaintelligence btw.? "super" is so 90ies.

And that same calculator is also excels in language skills, hacking, coding and is capable of doing image and video generation among a lot of other stuff? Expanding it's capabilities exponentionally in a short period of time??

@DX I intentionally framed the posting in a way that people can make their own conclusions and linked to Tao's blog post with the comments instead of directly to the AHM statement.
But the thing is, even if it is just a minority of 900 in this case, there are still many in the math community agreeing with them. It looks more like a 50-50 split at the moment.
If you go deeper into the arguments the anti-AI faction makes some relatable points but in the end the sheer progress and brute force solving of problems is more important than any emotional needs of human mathematicians.
If humans have problems understanding the AI outputs they can use other AI again to try to make it more comprehensible for humans.
In the end only the solutions matter and also whether they are applicable to the real world beyond any sheer puzzle solving endeavors.
It is more likely that AI results will have more practical application than the slow and more aesthetic human created solutions.

The red line throughout this topic is how you keep failing to grasp how AI works, despite everyone else trying to explain it to you
The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.
And you may pour us away like soup. Like we're pretty broken flowers.
We'll take back what is ours. One day at a time.
