Video * - EXCLUSIVE: AI actress Tilly Norwood glitches and starts speaking CHINESE during her interview with Piers Morgan and real-life actor Tom Conti...
Entire body of humankind knowledge has been damaged by AI penetration into it. Thru the digital storages of this knowledge accessible over the internet by Agentic AIs this corruption might go retroactively into historical data hurting irrevocably both ontology and epistemology.
@zenux
People been trying to do that for centuries on their own. We will be fine.
Propaganda and misinformation isn't new. People submitting fluff papers hoping no peer review comes happens now. People faking paintings have been happening since paintings have been a tradable commodity. and so on. anything they claim there that AI will try to do because we cant tell the difference. Parts of us have been trying to do to each other forever already because many cannot tell the difference.
I don't get why people act like all these problems are new (not just this one, other things humans been doing forever) Ai focused videos pop up all the time of: Imagine a world, where X happens.
And I go: This one? The one we have now? Yea..thats been happening. And humanity (mostly) auto corrects as those that want to see it fixed, work as those that want to see it broken, break it.
Why only 'mostly'. because it's worked for centuries on some people. Because it not that AI got smart enough to trick us, ist that some people are dumb enough to be tricked no matter the source of the trickery. Otherwise each type wouldn't be a centuries old scheme.
again I feel it's the new threat that popped up we didn't run into before so worry sets in as its the first time since we existed we THINK it's happened: Something as smart as us, will probably try to trick us. Yea...we had that already: We are as smart as us, and we try to trick us, constantly.
I like Cool Worlds for its astronomy content. But I avoid the speculative topics as they are a a bit..theatrical. “Possible under these assumptions” is a much weaker claim than “we have evidence this exists/might happen.” And him simply being a scientist don’t erase that distinction. And for some of his speculative videos, I feel that line gets blurred with intent.

Americans’ data center fears are coming true—a New Jersey location just leaked 5,000 gallons of diesel
Leaking diesel at these prices, criminal!
Wait until you hear about how much oil companies discharge/lose/leak daily just by operating..5000 gallon is a damn fine day for them.
Roughly 40,000 gallons a day is lost through refueling drips, small spills, and overflows of people just filling up their cars at a gas station. That's JUST the US. dunno other countries numbers. but that just one of them.
That 40,000 gallons would fill roughly 4 5 tanker trucks every day. That data center spill isn't even one lorry/semi tanker full. ist 1/2 of one.
Not defending it, any spill is bad. Just SOUNDS like a lot without context. its like posting an online article that Little jimmy spilled a gallon of gas filling up his lawnmower. Because you dislike Jimmy.

Cool worlds was talking about faking historical facts, and how easy it would be to do it.
Whether it will be done by prompts from malicious human agents or on some unforeseen unexpected whim by AIs themselves , quite considerable databases of historical data could be altered.
Not all of it, of course, not all the copies, but enough that what we call now hard facts will be no longer facts, but sheer assumptions about the past.
As time goes by, and new generations of youngsters raised in this uncertainty of truth about the past and by extension their contemporary present and future become adults, they will be more & more susceptible to ignorance grifters: pseudoscientists, charismatic politicians, all kind of cult leaders (social media influencers).
Something similar might have happened before, but not on that kind of scale, not with potential corruption of the history itself on global scale, not with diminishing science globally.

The way humans have learned new things best has always been by simply making an effort. Not by scrolling or watching youtube videos, but actual studying and/or going out in the field. That is a fundamental change in schools today than ever in history before. It goes against our nature and the way our brain is wired. Writing with pen and paper uses more parts of your brain than pressing buttons on a keyboard.

But 1/2 of it is trying to make you blame the wrong thing. For the first 1/2 It's still people doing it. It's not AI, its people using AI. Ai has no blame in what people use it for. Bitch at humans for being humans and lying/cheating. No one convicts the knife of murder when someone stabs someone with it.
It goes back to that centerious old story: Humans finding ways to swindle humans.
And we had the same exact fears when type print, radio, and TV came out. Literally the same fear murmurs rose up about no one knows what is 'true' anymore when anyone or anything can manipulate you.
Especially when printing came out. People everywhere saying truth we be a thing of the past. it was such a change in who controlled information people was told to not believe anything they read printed by a press.
The second half talks about rogue AI agents doing things sure. BUT that part of the video is the theatrical part.
It's blaming AGI with actions its making up, based on a thing that doesn't exist, to know its intentions of what it would do, to a thing and world it's not even in.
You could as easily and equally say:
- AGI will come about, love us and create a fantastical utopia for us that is as close to a biblical heaven on earth.
- AGI comes, builds us the ships, does the material science and maths we need to populate other worlds.
- AGI comes, decides pigs are the way to go as we are too violent, kills all us and genetically breed hyper intelligent swine to rule the planet.
And the probability of those being true is as equal as his postilation. When any guess of how AGI will be is equally valid. None of them are valid.
Unfalsifiable claims should be taken as what they are worth. Nothing. You know this..
It's like claiming to know why ghosts act the way they do. Or bigfoots motivations and intentions towards humans.
It's very close cousins of the prediction to claiming totally unlike us alien life will probably enslave us.
A thing we cannot test, being given agency as we feel it would have, based on fears centric to how we humans act, attributed to a thing we cannot prove (yet).

Don't we have audible books, movies and TV shows and before that theater as more accessible books alternatives for wider audience?
I know how to make books even less attractive: resurrect copying books by hand and make that hand a doctor's one, and no pictures, of course.
@DXWarlock
Forget about AI's agency, let's assume AGI will never emerge.
Just like guns have altered warfare forever, AI's ease of manipulation of digital world, that we heavily rely upon, will bring about a profound change, as this tool is too easy to abuse.

I don't think it's the fact it's a book that makes it undesirable. Its whats in it that does. I mean in the fact of information and knowledge books as that is the premise of what is important that will be lost.
There is tons of TV channels that are 'book' like in that aspect and they are not watched by most people. The fact that MrBeast has 1/2 a billion subs, while even the best well made informational ones have than 1/10th of that says it all. Vsauce 1,2 and 3 combined have 1/10th that. (the best at least everyone knows what it is channel, I can think of)
It's not the medium, it's the contents and general people's lack of interest in it.

I can agree with that. People will exploit it, and exploit others with it. Humans gonna human ya know.
But guns didn't really change how many died in huge wars, just how long they lasted. World War 2 70ish million. Mongol Invasions 40ish million. Which is nearly 1/2 but you gotta remember that was roughly 10% of the population. ww2 would need 250 million deaths to be equal.
Sorry..got on a side tangent.
I look at it as any other human made tool. ANY new conveyance of information tech we make people will quickly figure out how do these three thing with it: Use it, abuse it, make porn with it.
(drawing, painting, printing press, the camera, radio, TV, internet).
So it's just a new thing in the line of: Let see can I use it for good, use it for evil, or make people hard and charge money for that?

Things goes in cycles too, when the Harry Potter books came out every kid read them. Making something "hip" for kids isnt that hard, if something is trendy to them they will lean into it. Way easier to do it than for adults.
As for effort, you have to spend effort to stand out, no matter what the medium is. Everyone can use pen and paper - doesnt mean everything done with that is worth anything, you have to spend effort. Anyone can use AI, doesnt mean everything done with AI is worth anything.
Learning using AI is an incredible tool. Being lazy with computers or AI or not learning what the calculator is actually calculating etc etc, sure, but we can also learn how people can use computers or AI or anything and use it in a way where its not just braindead "follow along and press a key". This is not new.
@vurt
People that want to learn, will learn out of want. People that don't..will cheat. That's just how it is, again nothing new. old as mankind itself.
Don't know if you are old enough to remember the fears of pocket graphing calculators. When they got cheap enough average people that needed them could buy them.
in highschool and my college (late 80s - early 90s) same fears : if the machine draws the graph, finds the zeros, and computes the definite integral numerically, what is left that you are supposed to know? Who will learn anything if it does it all for you?
Like the dumb rule by US College Board that a calculator could not have a QWERTY keypad. (A roundabout way to try to prevent digital algebraic systems from being permitted, without outright just saying they was chicken little about graphing calcs).
I know I keep bringing up times people over worried about tech a lot. But only because it happens every..damn...time.
I go by the rule of thumb: What will the future of this tech be like? I have no idea. But I know what it won't be like, whatever the collective people's predictive worst fear it will be. As that has a pretttty solid track record of not being that.
Look at any decades tv/movies sci-fi horror genre. That will tell you what new tech to them, the collective irrationally feared. (War Games was a two for one: Computers AND imminent earth scorching nuclear war)

I think AI, especially generative AI, is exactly what we need to progress further, we need a serious kick in the ass or everything will just become a smear of same-same with equal "worth", and that is not our thing at all.
The last image is the author's claim that we shall completely lose keyboard (including on-screen keyboard) some time in the future as the main method of interacting with internet content and turn to voice commands interface.
Thou, I have to remark that for plenty of Web users today keyboard is not the main interface. Some kind of touch sensitive GU interface is quite prevalent.

Again what will the future of a tech be? no idea. What won't be? The worst outcome we can think of. It never turns out to be. This would be the first time in human history if it did.
just this one to keep it short:
And ecommerce sites will use AI to price match and singularly target people with the appealing price at that instant so they win the sale. Maybe not that exact thing but some form of using that same AI to counter profit loss.
They rather only make 1/2 usual profit by undercutting, than no profit if you buy elsewhere.
Every time someone goes: People will use AI for this. Yes. And people will use the same AI against it. Every tool people have to exploit a system/gain advantage. Those trying to stop them have the same tools.

Ok sorry, not the only one I lied, thinking about it this makes no sense:
Where would it run then? Locally? If so you can do that now...If the agents are online because you need more resources than you PC has, its a SaaS. I don't get the meaning behind this one.
If you could run it locally, you don't need AI to do that now. If you can't you pay for a service online so you can. And don't need AI for that. what..exactly is the AI doing here?
How? telepathy to us? What does this claim even mean?
the whole sentences makes no sense. It's like tech words smashed together to make a claim that is nonsensical.
His claim: People stop accessing the web itself to rely on a Ai to collect and present the best data to us instead.
So like....reddit? Or news websites, or any site 'about' a thing.
Where people go instead of browsing the whole web for content, and instead rely on an aggregate site of collective data done by someone/something else they don't know, on that subject?

Also no voice commands interface can replace joystick/keyboard in gaming.
And to reply to your objections above:
World wide web is not identical to internet with its content.
So the author simply claims that AI agent will find the needed content, be it media or software on the internet, and play it or execute it for us without any need in Web/ webbrowser. So in a way voice commanded AI app will replace web browsers of today.

yea, don't care how good the AI is. No ones wants to yell commands at an AI to play a game.

haha using voice commands has been a thing since the 90's, it doesnt catch on, i have no desire at all to talk to my computer. my brain is overall more wired for typing.
its like those scenarios where people say we will likely sit with VR-headsets. No we wont.
I don't even like voice chat to AI now. I type to it. its software, why would I want to talk vocally to my software like a conversation?
I want it to: I type to do a thing, it does the thing, I close that chat. (or keep telling it to do more things, then still just close it when it's done).
its probably my personally. But I really don't get people telling it thank you, or complimenting/agreeing/whatever with it. I dont tell my photoshop "Thank you for editing and saving that file"

In school we weren't allowed to use calculators until like 5th or 6th grade. Because otherwise we wouldn't practice our mental arithmetics enough.
Or why we had to read books and write a report on them, instead of just watching the movie.
It's not all just fear, I think. Rather an understanding how people learn best.
It still applies today, but at a much wider scale.
In any case, I'm glad I'm not a student today. The screen distraction is already a lot as an adult (can hardly even take the time to read anymore, except while on holiday). I'm glad I got a proper basis under the more traditional teaching methods

There's never been an argument afaik that LLM's doesn't predict next token, that's the training objective, but not what is computed at runtime.
Why are you so active in the thread but also with absolutely no interest in how they function, unless you see like a small thing taken out of context that fits your view of how you think it should function to not be called AI?
There would be so many ways to say humans don't actually think by using arguments like this btw. "neurons just fire based on electrochemical gradients"
This discussion is old btw, we have gone through this already.
Why not take it up with any of the existing models, since you think they aren't even AI's you would very easily win this debate, right?
spoiler: you wouldn't because you haven't understood a single thing.
If i would argue against it being something resembling human intelligence my argument would be that it can't update its weights in real-time, those are set in stone. You can tell it you think its wrong and it might accept that and in the future it could possibly remember it to repeat your correction/wish, but the underlaying model will not change no matter if your explanation made sense to it.
You could absolutely argue that simulating this in a more organic way should be vital for AI, that it can't be something which you can't teach in real-time. How to tackle that is probably not easy taking into account how slow and demanding training is with LLMs + also not even local (for "serious" models) so anyone could mess with this training...
I see we are still in the "it's just a stochastic parrot" phase.
Notwithstanding there is direct evidence that internal world models exist and they generalize instead of using pure statistical pattern-matching. Novel problems are already being solved absent training data.
Also, alternatives to tokenization are also being worked on and implemented.
LLM, RL and other sytems of AI will just continue evolving and increasingly show more and more emergent capabilities.
Novel problems are already being solved absent training data.
Taken literally, this is false. A model cannot learn useful structure with no relevant training signal, prior assumptions, or information in its prompt. That is objectively impossible for any AI (at the moment anyway)
That’s still pattern matching. it’s just much more sophisticated pattern matching than copying and pasting or word searching weights, for sure.
But solving a problem it hasn’t seen before doesn’t mean it learned without training data it means it generalized from what it was trained on.
A neural network does not have to choose between statistics and an internal model. It can create an internal model by statistical optimization.
Over simple example: Suppose a system learns an addition procedure from many examples. It can then solve 827 + 469 without ever having that exact expression or those numbers themselves in its training data.
“It’s getting so complicated that surprising behavior appears” is fair. “Therefore something magical or self-directed is emerging” is a much bigger claim that the evidence doesn’t establish.

What happened to goorold Neural Networks term of the quite recent past?
Neural Networks were all the rage 8-15 years ago.
Can we go back calling today's AIs and LLMs that?
No controversy, no ambiguity there, everybody's happy
