Well, the book mentions that Charlotte is in a small section of the pods where pilots are, so I felt like it was hinting that she might have participated in mentioned drone runs but doesn't remember because of the drugs. In general, the drone operations are only mentioned, nothing overtly over the top, like in the show. Donald does trigger a "failsafe" (I don't think it's named in the books), but it's really a "out of sight, out of mind" situation, not like it is presented here where he revels in children getting shot in the chest. Laughing

In the trailer, there is a shot of Wahmen Thurman looking distressed, with something bright in front of her happening. That could be what we think it is. For all the retarded changes they made, at the end of the day, the plot is moving in the same direction as the books. Nano "payloads" are killing people, Troy longs for Helen, etc. In the books, Silo 17 is saved not by "capping" a "pipe" ( Laughing ), but Anna, the daughter of Thurman, grows a conscience and switches the nano "payload" from malicious to medical. I find this concept far more appealing than a bunch of dirty people screaming, snipping some tubes.

So one thing that remains open and a plot hole for now is why the landscape around the silos is barren. It cannot be the nuke. But it looks like in the show, they don't have a nano perimeter (they need drones to shoot down escapees, whereas in the books, it is empirically proven that there is "disease" in the air around the silo, albeit at lower concentration than near the entrance, where the "argon" "gas" is shot. They even get confused and think they messed the samples up, until it dawns on Juliette what's really going on. That's why, in the book, the people in silo 17 die outside, but the bodies of the dead inside or close to the entrance remain a very preserved state (medical nanos keep healing cells). Juliette’s scars from the fire also disappear very fast, because she still has medical nanos in her from her visit to silo 17. None of this is established in the show, so I don't know how they can explain the landscape, or later, why suddenly there is green outside of the perimeter.

As a maintenance they can periodically "trim" the territory of the compound with organics killing nanites from the drones. Probably during nights, so that not to attract too much attention.

OK, but then how do they explain the nanos not spreading?

I guess this will be the big reveal of season 4, which they didn't want to foreshadow. What happened to humanity? People went in the silos, and a bomb went off. So it must be a nucular war and all daed no? Ohez noehz, muh post apocalypse! Laughing Only it turns out, nope, it's definitely not the nukes. Troy/Donald also takes time to piece it together, even though it's staring him in the face for a lot of time. I guess a similar journey will be taken in Season 4 to redeem Daniel.

BTW, if you want to flip your table, read spoilers about Machine Learning (short stories set in the Silo universe)… What an absolute rancid way to finish this world and some characters.

Running out of battery/energy or organic material to consume in their immediate vicinity might be the limiting factor.

Why did it take so much time for Silo 17 rebels to try to venture on the berm and beyond. They were all crowded above their own silo 17 for a couple of hours, at least, in this adaptation. Was it some kind of claustrophobic effect of being raised in this crammed environment.

Who gave Daniel name Troy? If it was selected at random by a computer, shouldn't the founders start suspecting some sort of subterfuge from the program, given the fact that they must have been familiar with the Ancient Greece story, and his wife's name being Helen. Provided that memory restorations can be triggered by objects or words from the past, the founders shouldn't have risked giving Daniel this ambiguous name.

Also there's no faith in God or gods in Silo series, well, perhaps, the founders of the Pact can be seen as surrogates to gods. And, yep, Google says the author Hugh Howie is a devout non-believer, Smile hence no supernatural factor in his books.

The entire concept of 'good' and 'bad' nanos is so fucking cringe Laughing Glad the show has somewhat worked around it until now.

He chose it. Not "god" or some "mysterious higher power". In the book, he is supposed to go to silo 18, while his best friend, who is aware of silo 1's purpose switches places with him. Anna, Thurman's daughter, who is in love with Donald since long ago, lies to him that she told the wife to go silo 1. Then, during the convention, signal jamming is employed and he is unable to contact her until the end. Then the nuclear weapons are deployed (by the military parade), and Donald is chased by security, like in the show.

The book slowly reveals how their lives went on when they entered (as Donalds remembers slowly). All the women and children are put in cryo sleep to entice the men to do what they are told and not rebel. They undergo an "orientation" where start getting the memory drugs (knowingly) so they can do the tasks. Donald's way of trying to remember Helen is choosing the name "Troy".

Helen is not pregnant when she goes into silo 18. Later, Donald reads the server logs from silo 18 and finds out Helen ends up marrying his best friend and having two children. But this is long in the future, so she is long dead already. In a fit of jealous rage, he wakes Anna from cryo sleep and poisons her. Again, so much more interesting than the underdeveloped lesbian Anna and sister plot.

In one of his "shifts", Donald decides to commit suicide by going out. Only it doesn't really work like that, so they bring him back in before people in another silo can see him. He already has of the "bad" nanos, and when he is put to cryo sleep, he is also filled with medical nanos. The only way cryo sleep can work is by having nanos service the body while "sleeping". This mix of medical and "bad" nanos create a storm in his body that ultimately would kill him.

There are no good and bad nanos. It's robots that have different coding. Medical nanos are tasked with restoring cells while "bad" nanos are programmed to destroy specific living matter in specific proximity.

BTW, that all exists in the show, even if not specifically or explicitly stated as such. Notice how when they are put in and out of cryo sleep, there is a gray goo surrounding them? Guess what that is. Rolling Eyes Surprisingly similar to the gray goo that took over the sister's plane.

The third book has a lot of religion, and it's the weakest part of the book (but sadly, sizable). But I guess he wanted to show the dark side of these desperate times. I didn't like these parts of book 3 at all. I don't care about child marriages or eating puppies or whatnot.

The religion in the book is a somewhat "evolved" Abrahamic religion, where the silo is the center of the universe. In their view, any belief of other silos is blasphemy and work of the devil. They refuse to believe Juliette has been to another silo because there are no other silos. Later when she brings the kids over, and silo 18 is destroyed and they go back to silo 17 with the survivors, the preacher has a "come to Jesus" moment with his retarded beliefs. But then the book just forgets about these characters. More reasons not to like or care for these parts of the last book. Hopefully the show skips them too.

Grandpa Knox can make a fortune now in silo 18 by installing and maintaining elevators.
If money doesn't exist in silos world, then he can surely elevate his social status and get a better crib.
Now that the Pact is practically void, lifts gotta gain tremendous popularity in this reverse skyscraper.
