Binged this yesterday, and – apart from the first and the last episodes – it was surprisingly good. The combat is visceral and brutal, as it must have been in the Middle Ages.
I'd say the show's main strength is that it tells its own self-contained story effectively, without any unnecessary fluff, a kind of no-frills entertainment that almost feels refreshing these days. I too found it surprisingly enjoyable, thanks to its charming characters and the way it blends comedic moments with violent ones. Still, it's ultimately a rather straightforward (and predictable) affair, nowhere near as engaging as GoT S01–04 were for me. But that's a general issue that I have with most top-rated modern shows/movies/games - as the bar gets lower, I often feel that their actual quality doesn't really reflect the ratings they receive.
