Watched all 5 episodes and what can i say? It's got its interesting concept on magic even though i think it's a temporary thing before people cast spells like usual. Anyway, it got it's serious undertones but it's problem is the protagonist. One standout thing. Magician guy wanted to wipe Coco's memory for finding out magic is penstrokes. Then she's introduced to a city of penstroking mages. OKKK.. How is it not general knowledge?
You want to know how a anime is? Look to it's protagonist, they more often than not reflect the general tone of the story. She sucks up to her bully, overly chippy and happy. Talking about magic and happiness. All telltale signs of japanese trash writing. It's gonna develop at a snails pace and after 12 episodes you'll be left with "Want to know more? Buy the manga"
Nothing would be better than if they subverted my expectations, but i doubt it.
Gotta recommend re:zero season 4. Jesus christ what a season. Admittedly im not done yet though. Season 2 and 3 was a bit of a stinker, but this shit is crazy. Brutal psychological horror
I've watched this yesterday and I'm unfortunately disappointed. It is missing something for me, not sure what but I didn't feel invested into story at all (might be overusing 3d rendering instead of actual drawings?). For everyone interested there will be 2 more movies (in 2027 and 2029) to finish the story, so might be good to park this one for the next couple years and watch everything one go.
I've also watched "Witch Hat Atelier" and what a disappointment that was. Except interesting magic system there is nothin that much interesting (at least in season 1) that would keep you invested. I think they've missed the mark with how much to hide and how much to explain to the viewer and at the end I was completely bored with it. Not sure if I will pick up season 2 if it ever goes out.
Its the opposite for me with Atelier. I find most anime handles magic more or less exactly the same. This time it's a concept i've never seen before and that's good. I like creativity. Yet, while it's interesting and original, it doesn't feel like they're people with magic really. What is the requirement? being able to draw nicely and having a wand that suits you well. Sounds like everyone can do magic, yet they're seen as some secret order even in a full city of mages. I won't say it's flawless, but it is still enjoyable to watch
Demon slayer i fell off after the entertainment district arc. It just dragged on and on and on with the same villains. I got so bored. And then i read people find it amazing and the best arc and i know i have either outgrown the genre, or the series is not for me. I did enjoy the previous arcs more, but like 8-10 episodes of fighting the same villains is just too much for me.
