It won't be doomed, its GTA.
Long as you can steal cars, shoot people, run over women and children and collect expensive car widgets GTA style. It will sell.
I could be wrong as I only know my group of friends to reference. But I don't know anyone that bought any of the GTA games for the story.

Online is what will make or break the game's profitability, no way they'll get their investment back on how well the singleplayer sells alone. Well, that and whatever derpbait microtransactions they saddle the "campaign" with.
And AFAIK there isn't a release date for the online shit yet.

I have to admit I'm one of those that fan that online flame.
I never bought shark cards or anything beyond the base game, but with 956 hours according to steam in GTA V. None of it was single player other than the tiny 10 minute bit you need to do to get online.
From everyone I know, and granted it biased to people that like playing together. GTA series since it has had the online portion, is the main draw to it. The story in online, not so much, it was just filler to give some random dialog to the overly enjoyable mayhem causing grind of: Drive like a maniac, run over people, shoot stuff, mug people for no reason, rob gas stations just because it's there, get paid...repeat.
The online story didn't make or break it. It just..existed out of necessity for a narrative.
Singleplayer sure. Need it good there. Online? It's just so it's not a world full of mutes and a rough direction marker of what to cause mayhem on next.

Mostly all I watch anymore is youtube. But my tastes are so far outside the regular youtube feed stuff.
As about all I watch is: space/astronomy stuff, stand up comedy, comedy sitcoms (which is rare and those that are, are rarely good anymore), cartoons, science stuff, woodworking stuff, niche documentary stuff.
So youtube is the only place that isn't: Pay $50+ a month for 500 channels you wont like, for 3 you might kinda like 1/2 the stuff on.
For streaming platforms I don't have any. Wife does, I don't.
Netflix: I don't watch movies unless family talks me into it, or the RARE one I think Id want to try.
Peacock: Nothing on it at all interests me.
Paramount: Same as above.
Hulu: Not worth the price for the rare things on it I want.
Amazon Prime Video: I got it with my amazon prime, but I watch it like 3 times a year maybe.
So all that's left is generic 'all the channels' platforms like cable TV, or streaming services that do the same idea and they are $80+ a month. And youtube premium is cheaper than a streaming service sub, that 99% of the channels I don't watch, and the ones I would are sparse.
And only reason I pay for premium is I cannot adblock and sponsor skip on my roku TV. If I only watched on my PC, ublock works fine without paying.

Meanwhile I pay for all of those lol. And some other, more niche ones like Criterion and Mubi. But I watch like 400-500 movies a year so it probably makes more sense for me.
