There's nothing worse than a short rain shower, falling on hot asphalt, concrete buildings in urban areas. It will only evaporate the water and increase the humidity, which is worse than no rain at all.
What worries me the most is the collapse of the power supply system due to overloading the grid. In that case we are all fucking then.

The goverment decided it's code red last minute cause it's 38 degrees tommorow. It was forcasted for more then a week, but they could only decide it in the last 24 hours.

At 19.00: a message from school: they are closing tommorow. It's a modern building with cooling that imho a lot cooler then your avarage dutch home. But he, code red. Close the school! Think of the children.LOL Wasn't working anyway tommorow but if I did I would be seriously pissed.

And people, stay inside!
Cause it's so much more healthier to sit down in your darkened home and feel misserable then go out and decide for yourself if it's to hot to stay outdoors.
Thank god our heatwaves only last for three days on avarage in these retarded times. It feels like covid all over. Well there aren't any uniformed retards actually forcing you to stay inside but give them time, they will get to that.

I'm new to this code red thing. They isued it starting at 00.00. It was allready dangerously hot then with 19 degrees, but those are code red 19 degrees. It's atm 23 degrees. But he, code red. Just close down everything regardless of the hour of the day:
Schools closed
Mail isn't delivered. They are even closing open air swiming pools Laughing

Basically a total shutdown of the country. We had warmer days before without problems before they invented code red

Is this what "code red" cause of heat means in the rest of europe or is this a little less full retard.

Yes. Goverment issues code red at 00.00. Then it goes down the chain and people decide to go safe cause "it's code red". Noboddy knows what "code red' means, so the stick to the safe side.
Not that they are that stupid to just shut everthing down at midnight. But pretty much every day time activity is cancelled. Cause if something happens, they are responsible cause it was code red Laughing
So my kids school only does classes untill 12 at friday. It's only 29 degreed then. But it's code red, close the school. It's that stupid. They don't even think about what the actual conditions are.

Day care is also closed for all. They didn't even do that in covid. It's a middle class neighbourhood so most families have a parent that can work at home and are fine.

Thing that sucks though is that the norm is set. 38 degrees (or lower perhaps): it's code red and we close everyhing regardless. Cause because. It's just braindead governence. Think we will get this everytime now when temperature's hit 35.

Think that there are to much woman working at te goverment. They decide emotional and off course a lot are on the left of the political spectrum. It's not only safe to call a code red, it also raises awareness for the changing climate. These times Rolling Eyes
Luckily our heatspells only last 3 days at max and occur every other year or so.

EU decided to ban sale of residential air conditioners with R32 refrigerant in 2029, I wonder how that's going to work since almost every system is using R32 at present.

The environmental impact of R32 is trivial and only applies when there are leaks. The alternative R290 is barely used in split units and it is highly flammable, since it's also known as...propane.

Another galaxy brain decision by the bureaucrats and environmentalist lobbyists. Laughing

The fan with ice bottles is actually not a bad idea. It's much better than evaporative cooling, since the bottles are sealed and no water evaporates so humidty does not increase.
Just have to stay in the breeze because it has little to no effect on overall room temp. It will also feel better when the air is dry.

I'm using a homemade icebox cooler (and not even a plastic icebox, just a styrofoam container), also with bottles and icecubes still locked in plastic bags. They're reusable and if my hygrometers are not lying there's only a minimal increase in humidity, they're not a 100% watertight. 2/3rds of my freezer are filled with icecube bags though and it's not as effective. Also blocked the window with a foam insulation board, so I only need a drugged up neighbour to complete my ghetto look.

I did have a portable ac (a split, used in campers, actually really nice), but sent it back since I was supposed to start my contract on wednesday (and I will, next wednesday, after the damn 42+ degree weekend heatwave) and spend the next month and a half on a nice, aircooled vessel Sad . Outside of heatwaves I do not feel the need for fixed AC for cooling (and heating). Yet. Heatwaves are here to stay, so I'll probably get one sooner or later, same with external blinds.

i cover all my windows with really thick blankets, it really helps. more than you likely expect, it has surprised me. but yes, has to be thick. it also keeps out the awful light Laughing well, at least its awful when you want to sleep. i want intense darkness or i cant get good sleep.

a quiet fan is a life saver at night, got an expensive one years ago, still holds up and haven't started making some noise like many fans do after a while.
