Pretty sure your body is built to handle heat way better than mine. But it's the damn humidity in the evening that is the killer.

I always believed those southern European homes are like caves and are cool all summer.
But why not install an airconditioning if you live there???

Pretty cool for the time of the year, actually; 24-25º max and 17-18ºC min throughout the rest of the week.

I have never really looked into it. Does it consume a lot of energy/cost a lot of money?
Our house is very well insulated, so can stay fresh all day as long as we open the windows at night.

The energy can be free with your own solar panels or with a variable rate energy contract (dunno if that's available in France).
But even at normal rates it shouldn't be a problem and you don't have to cool all of your house all day. Or just do the bedroom (cause that's seems like a problem in your case), that doesn't have to be that expensive. It's cool in 1-2 hours and doesn't cost that much energy.
A lot of people are also installing airco's for heating mainly cause it's cheaper then gas atm.

We are thinking of selling and moving anyway. So might not be worth the hassle.
We did look into solar panels actually but it's forbidden by the local government. They dont want to ruin the picturesque image of tbe village.

What a wise goverment. Private owned solar panels are worthless and ugly. Sadly I’m required to have them by law.

The problem with wind and solar is that it’s unrealiable. You’ll always need backup power. And the spikes in power production are overloading the grid. When the sun shines, my solar energy is worthless cause there is a surplus anyway. Storage is to expensive and resource intensive. In fact, going “green” is extremely poluting if we would rely on that 100%.
Nuclear is the only way to go (as they do in France)

It's getting hotter and hotter, we're gonna have sun in overload mode (meaning solar power).

First the amount of sunshine is not affected by global warming.
Second we allready have a huge surplus of solar. It’s trading for negative prices when the sun shines. At the same time, at least in the Netherlands, electricity is in short supply due to grid problems and there is no green energy when the sun doesn’t shine and there is no wind. Solar energy is not the solution. I produce 50-60kwh a day with this weather. It’s worthless. People are allready turning their panels off in summer when using dynamic pricing.

Need to store the energy into batteries then, Tesla Powerwall 3 or the BYD Box.

price of power is going 65x SIXTY FIVE X at 19hours ... some people with dynamic contracts are going to get bankrupted
11 euros at 1200hours to 655 euros at 1900 hours

Aye, this is shaping up to be the hottest June ever registered here in Italy *inserts Homer Simpson's [...so far]*, with some central areas nearing 40°C (including where I live). The idea of going through another 2-3 months of this - but worse - is genuinely , let alone thinking about the next decade(s) with more improved and mature Heat 2.0

I still have a brand new Daikin Perfera Multisplit stored downstairs, but I decided against installing it because its costly and not worth because I will sell the house in 2 years and take it with me anyway.
A factory in Foshan, China makes portable splits e.g Portasplit from Midea and a slightly inferior white label version sold by various brands, they are a bit overpriced but highly in demand in summer.
So they're sold out or more expensive than they should be now. Something to look out for in autmun/winter though.
Recommended for everyone here who for cost or permission reasons cannot install a proper fixed split.
So I quickly got one of the baser mobile units (3,5Kw) open box at 200€, incredible deal (original price 400-500€). It's loud and inefficient but will do the job for this summer. It's cool now and the dehumidify is very effective at 84l/day capability.

That doesn't store enough. But at the same time to much, cause you can't use it after hours cause it's to much to spend in a night. And again to little to charge a car.
Say you can get 10kwh for 180 days a year. That's a 450 euro profit. For a 10k investment (panels with batteries, you can get cheaper batteries then the Tesla powerwall).
It will cost you 22 years to get your money back not corrected for inflation. That's a horrible investment.
It also doesn't help the planet. Cause your batteries are only worthwhile cause they are actually allow you to evade energy taxes. The electricty itself is to cheap to store profitably.
It's better that commercial players install the panels and batteries, then all the electricity can be put to good use.
And even better: just go nuclear. Way cleaner (almost no mining needed), stable, reliable, safe. And it uses a lot less space. No ugle windmills and fields full of panels. And think about all the space those batteries will consume.
