There's a mod which enables the outlines to be seen from a distance.
And another which puts markers everywhere, though that leads to a lot of clutter. Useful though.
In the original, the maps were so bare, you could see tiny mushrooms from far away, or a sword sticking out of the ground near a fire camp.....
With this remake, they added soooooo much random bullshit like crates and barrels that you can't interact with.... which is fine.... but you can't tell what items you can interact with until you are near them
You can't see what is laying on the forrest ground because of all the new vegetation
I basically run around an entire camp or village running around 100 items only to find out that I can interact with 2 of them.... it's horrible
I don't remember avoiding combat so much in the first game and that one was clunky because of the times.
The combat animations are junky and poorly telegraphed. Sometimes the enemies damage you even if they don't actually hit you or weirdly overextend their attacking animation. Getting staggered is so poorly executed that it feels like your inputs don't work. A lot of the battles with humans unfold in hilarious repetitions.
There's a lot of other junk as well related to AI, normal animations, bugs, etc. Sometimes it almost feel like they reskinned the original game for all its good and bad things.
Issues aside, I hope this one doesn't share the fate of Dead Space Remake. I really want to see Gothic 2 remade.
The hitboxes are pretty off. I have found myself dodging less and just stabbing enemies as they do their lunge attacks.
IMO its about as janky as the original game, just in different ways.
What i forgot about Gothic 1 is how unsatisfying the progression is compared to 2. The fact that you can only level up your combat skill twice instead of a gradual 5 pt increase means all of a sudden i am killing everything in one hit rather than it being a nice progressive power creep. There's things G1 does better than than 2 but 2 crushes it in terms of satisfying player progression

Didnt really take that long from running around scary orcs to you slaughtering the whole map in Gothic 2 either to be fair
I found Gothic 2 to be one of those rare cases where the sequel is as good if not better than the original.
In my opinion this used to be the case with most games ~20 years ago. Many devs were rather inexperienced and could use the learnings from the first game and fast technological advantages for the second game.

I guess there are a few examples from 10-15+ years ago that come to mind: Diablo 2, BG2, Gothic 2, Warcraft 2&3, Dead Space 2, Max Payne 2, KOTOR 2, Portal 2, Half Life 2, Serious Sam 2, Age of Empires 2, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 2, AvP2, Silent Hill 2, etc
You are probably right. But as you said, some of these games did benefit a lot from the rapid advancement of tech.
Can anyone explain why the torch and use of it so weird, why can’t I unequip it after using it?
The “Hero” just plants it in the ground when I try to put it away.
Is it because it’s too hot to put back in the inventory? lol
It can be picked up and stored after the flame extinguishes which appears to be after some time after planting it.
Also having to hold another button whilst using the torch to interact with items and NPCs is kinda stupid, the amount of times I’ve forgot to hold the button and hit someone accidentally is ridiculous.
Am I missing something?

Jump in the water with the torch, it will unequip.
I don't remember the boys meeting up during the mine quest. This addition seems forced. They also messed up with the quest's logic, you have to go outside for no reason.
Finished. Waited for the patch, but it ended up being underwhelming and apparently introduced new bugs
Anyway, the fight with the Sleeper is really good. The classic doesn't compare. In general I prefer this version, just hope there's a mod to make higher tier magic usable
You know what damage Uriziel's rune does? 90. For 40 mana. It's 90 energy, which not many enemies can resist, but still only 90.
I actually went back to learn 2h, because Uriziel, the sword, is pretty good.
And the shout of the dead, a 6th circle rune, does 150 wind damage. At that point the wind fist from 3rd circle did 160 and was faster
I am really hyped for Gothic 2 Remake.

They didn't respawn in every chapter OOOOR they did and system pack/community patch/whichever other mod changed that.
On chapters 3 and 4 there were no respawning enemies aside from a few bloodflies I think.

There never ever was any REspawn in classic Gothic games, some ADDITIONAL NEW enemies were added to the game world (by chapter transitions/some quests) and that's it.
Yeah, the fixed total amount of XP in the gameworld is classic Gothic. I was pleasantly surprised to see lots of enemies again (lurkers, wolves, molerats, ...) when chapter 2 triggered. Basically lots of free XP at that point
The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.
And you may pour us away like soup. Like we're pretty broken flowers.
We'll take back what is ours. One day at a time.
