It's classic eurojank though in true Piranha bytes style.

Took me 15 minutes to kill that first goblin (I suck at dodge pary combat) just to be rewarded with 60XP and no loot. That tent that should have had the loot behind him wasn't even accessible Laughing

Game runs like absolute dog crap

intro cutscene was glitchy as hell

vsync exists but cannot turn it on as fullscreen is not an option.

fps is poor even on medium settings game feels....off/odd

we are not your test dummies these studios keep putting out games without proper testing fix the performance so the gameplay can be reviewed properly.

It was stuttery as hell for me, even intro was choppy, i was quite disappointed. Set it to High, no difference.

but i then realized i had some old nvidia driver installed for whatever reason, some old game that worked better with it. The latest ones: buttery smooth!

Game absolutely feels like Gothic, it's all i ask. I am not even very picky when it comes to this type of game because they are rare. I love it so far.

Yep, it's good. Damn, tbhat Sect Camp is easy to get lost in.

This is me right now, just with keyboard and mouse, because I'm not a console peasant:

 Spoiler:

Checked all camps and non-instakill areas and it's shaping up to be a very faithul remake, which sprinkles in new content where needed.

Ugh, instaskip, then. I HATE it when you can't loot stuff.

Game's good-very janky which is appropriate.

That lockpicking mini game might be the worst i've ever seen

Eh, once you get used to it (and buy the first level of lockpicking, so you get more chances and the lock stops resetting if the pick breaks), it's not so bad.

The bigger problem is the loot inside is usually shit. You open an 8 pin lock, and there's only one cumsock and a rotten apple inside.

Man, got the fire arrow novice rune form Torrez, upped my mana a bit in the Sect Camp (same Baal as in the og teaches it), bought some reefers and no animals pose a threat.

As for melee: turn off the combat assistance. With it on you can mostly button mash like in Risen.
When it's off you can do combos based on visual cues

I’ll take 10.

No seriously, I’m buying this.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Couldn't resist and quickly isotested this nameless bad boy; it is indeed a pleasantly faithful rendition of the original, with an impeccable atmosphere and just the right amount of changes/QoL additions. The animations are weighty and the sense of immersion is definitely there, which was my primary concern. Basically the complete opposite of the nightmarish modernized demo from 2019 that journos would have adored. Kudos to the devs for wiping that mutant off the colony and for gathering the correct feedback instead.

It wouldn't be Gothic without the jank and the remustardmake will need some patching as per usual; however, its state isn't as dramatic as I feared from a technical standpoint despite the typical UE5 quirks. At least it's not plagued by stuttering for me, with the performance being comparable to other Angina titles (meaning DLSS+FG are mandatory to maintain 100+ fps)

Edit:
The lockpicking is...bizarre, but there are already mods that allow you to skip that: https://www.nexusmods.com/games/gothic1remake/mods?sort=endorsements

Whoever though that forcing the camera to zoom out while running is a neat idea... should rethink their career in gaming...

EDIT

Anyway... looks like this was a success:

47,218 In-Game
Very Positive reviews on Steam

I suggest you switch to classic camera (settings-game). There are also loads of other customization options.

zooming out while running sounds like good design, you need to be more aware of the surroundings while running, also when running usually you can have some enemy chasing you, so why not be able to easier tell the distance?

Running = hyper alert, hyper aware. Walking, no threats, less aware, less caring about the surroundings. Makes sense.

What is bad about it? Which gameplay element will suffer from it?

Ok, started playing this.

I must admit, I didnt really inform myself about this game despite being a huge Gothic rererereplayer. I didn't really like the first demo.

I'm playing the German localization for nostalgia reasons and I'm impressed they got some of the original voice actors.

But ... the soundtrack is Kai Rosenkranz. And that is just so awesome. Me Gusta

Anyway, I'm 1h in and all I did was collecting everything I can. Need ALL the stuff Laughing

edit: And now I'm playing Gothic with a controller, like a peasant. Laughing

The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.

Finally reached chapter 2. Sect camp is the same, old camp also, but joining the new camp requires a fun quest at the end.
There are new side quests in Chapter 2 (there were also a few in 1), at least in the Old Camp. One involves helping a woman, so that will probably trigger people on Steam forums.

I prefer OTS camera in third-person games.

But I assume there will be some mods soon on nexus, that would bring various fixes to the camera / game.
