Damn this is definitely a game where you "come" for the booty but stay for the gameplay. Altho some sections are definitely made for a 14yo korean's reflexes as the parry/dodge windows of some enemies/bosses/setpieces are utter bullshit if you're over 30 Laughing

It's just a strange game that screams modern asian culture with all the goon bait and dress up doll mechanics. some outfit make it seem like you're playing with almost nude mods or one of those early access goon games running around in bikinis n shit Laughing

The gameplay's pretty good and it does its best to switch things up and introduce new mechanics to keep it from going stale and too repetitive. I really thought it was made by the same devs that made Nier at first but it's pretty close to it in setting, story and some mechanics.

Also playing this right now, I really like how it feels like a middle finger to the West. There’s no feminist agenda, the hero is just hot, cool, and not whiny. The rolls, flips, and finishing animations are top-tier. Even the ladder-sliding animation is badass. This game is just pure fun, which is what all video games should aim for.

Even with the Soulslike mechanics, Stellar Blade is much easier and more forgiving. You lose nothing when you die and so far (8 hours in), the bosses are far from being HP sponges.

It's not in Sony's hands any more in terms of the sequel.

A few days ago Shiftup's Q1 report said they're gonna self-publish the next game and whatever else they have coming out with emphasis on global reach on their own terms. They'll also release new information about Stellar Blade 2 some time this year.

Q.4: What is the development and publishing strategy for the next <Stellar Blade> title?

Quote:
A.4 : Development of the next <Stellar Blade> title is progressing smoothly, on track to meet our targeted quality standards.

Notably, starting with this next title, Shift Up will transition to a first-party service model. This will allow us to lead marketing strategies that fully reflect the distinctive identity of the <Stellar Blade> IP, and we expect to communicate the unique appeal of its universe to players more directly and effectively. Building on the strong fandom and evergreen IP status established by the first <Stellar Blade>, we are formulating an optimal go-to-market strategy designed to maximize sales and reach a broad global audience from day one.

With three key tailwinds — high-quality self-publishing capabilities, a sales maximization strategy, and a proven IP fanbase — we are confident the next title will deliver
meaningfully improved results compared to its predecessor.

Q.7 : What is the direction for expanding your publishing business?

Quote:
A.7 : We intend to self-publish (first-party service) both the next <Stellar Blade> title and UNBOUND's titles. To support this, we are continuously bringing on board global talent with experience in launching and operating major titles worldwide.

The opportunity to directly publish the next <Stellar Blade> and UNBOUND titles on a global scale is proving to be a compelling draw for top industry professionals, enabling us to rapidly strengthen our in-house publishing capabilities.

I doubt they were happy how Sony handled the initial PC sales because Sony was still enforcing it's 300 countries sales/activation ban for games since Helldivers.

When Stellar Blade preorders started Shiftup's twitter seemed unaware Sony was blocking sales/activation and it took about a week until it was unblocked. It was historical because roughly within a month all the other games were unblocked (as if someone finally took a look at what they did with all the games since helldivers).

Americas and the european union made a fuss about Helldivers mainly because of the PS Account requirement which was lifted fast but sales of that game and other Sony published games were still blocked even in countries which have official Sony console/games presence but do not have native language support....it was incredibly dumb.

The indie market is "all fucking then" Sony, M$ , Nintendo and the "AAA" market for years now.

Let's be honest, games like blue prince, Silksong , Nine sols and even Alice Dark souls project are far more interesting games than action adventures game with shiny booty protagonist.
