the best tweak you can do is to open the .pk4 files in winrar (you will find pak001,2,3 and 4 in the base folder). Open them in winrar and start to extract all the files to your base folder so you get a base folder with lots of files and folders. if there is some clones just replace them.

when this is done with all the .pk4 files, start up doom3 and get ready to double your fps Very Happy it works realy great.

one tips could be to extract the files in the .pk4 files to a temp folder and then move the files and folders to the base folder when you are finished.

i did this and i now have 40-60fps all the time with this system:

intel p4 NW 2.0ghz
512mb ddram (pc2700)
radeon 9700 non-pro 128mb

enjoy Very Happy

nice tweak. i noticied an increased in framerates and faster transtitions. also averaging higher framerates. to MasterPimp, yes delete those pk4 files. but make sure you have them backed up and put them in another folder like "backup" folder.

It depends on what you are playing, when you extract the files from the pk4 files, the game will pull the files from the normal folders when playing single player. It'll only pull stuff from the pk4 files when you connect to play multiplayer on a pure server.

Yes, you need to delete or rename OR move the files to another folder. If they are still there, the game will just load them and doesnt care about the extracted files.

ok, first I changed my 3D settings from balanced to high performance, which actually reduced my framrate lol. Then I tried the chace trick, still got the exact same framrate. So I guess I'm "stuck" at 34,7 fps (timedemo1). Unless anyone has onther idea Smile

AMD64 3k, 1GB RAM, 9800pro 128MB running 1024*768, high, 2xAA

... but even worse, it releases satan.

well... I have already done that since i use VSync. But even if I turn Vsync off it doesn't make any difference (frameratewise) if I have tribuffer enabled.

I can run with 4xAA and ultra settings and get 50+ (but it drops down sometimes below 30).

See my specs below, and I play 2xAA 1024x768 High Settings and get no less than 55 FPS. Ive seen it hit 40 with 4 or 5 monsters on screen in a highly detailed area.

Boost performance on ATi graphics cards by up to 40%.

Just read this thread on beyond3d

Haven't tried it myself but both perhaps you can boost it a bit.

I must ask you again, you are talking about your framrate when using com_showfps1 or something like that, not what your score is using timedemo. Please run timedemo two times and then tell me what kind of score you get.

*shakes head*

Watch some other timedemos please, and if you don't have any, make some; don't just run Timedemo1. It sticks at 60FPS nearly the whole time.

heh, well it just doesn't make much sense comparing different demos.
If I make my own or try something else, sure I get a better score.

Ingame I seem to be between 50-60 all the time but thats a different issuse, we need to compare the same demo if the scores are ment to be of some kind of use, but what the hell, I'll just live with it.

Razz Lets say, my demo has *more* monsters and textures on screen at the same time. Would that not imply my machine is working harder? There is something not right with the settings you have for your card or in the game.

Well my computer may be broken then Very Happy

I use Balanced OpenGL settings, Triple Buffering Enabeld, Force Z-buffer disabled.

In cfg file:
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "256"
seta image_cacheMinK "2048"

And ingame 1024x768,High settings, everything (including shadows) enabeld. Vsync and 2xAA. And my timedemo1-result is 34,7

Not much else to do change is it...

you cant, the game is capped at 60fps regardles of vsync or no vsync.
"play" the timedemo if you want more framerates, its uncapped Laughing

Yes you can (for Single Player at least)
Add
seta com_fixedTic "-1"
