I had a Philips OLED earlier today. It was pretty solid, but ultimately I returned it because of the stupid VESA adapter that hinged on the integrity of a plastic clip with a spring attached to it. It's so terrible that people have taken to 3D printing replacement for theirs whenever they break: https://www.printables.com/model/1146888-philips-evnia-replacement-mount-clip
No thank you, EVNIA.

That looks scary to me. |
While I do notice it in very specific circumstances on desktop use (Steam, Discord, anything with a grey'ish skin), my unit is nowhere near that level. For gaming, as well as watching TV and movies - it's a non-issue. Neither is the VRR flicker, as I turn that shit off and don't use G-Sync. Just run it at native res at 280hz refresh.
I couldn't really afford to wait, regardless of what the situation may have been. Got a new system in September (the GTX 1080 couldn't cut it anymore - thank fuck I didn't wait until after all of this went to shit just 2 months later), and wanted to finally make the jump to 1440p after being on 1080p for over a decade and a half.
Is it the best monitor? Probably not. But it's the best I could afford at the time that checked most of my boxes (would have preferred it to be 32" 1440p rather than 27", but beggars can't be choosers unfortunately).

I’m on the same boat. I’m also bought a new system in December and waiting to upgrade my ancient 1440p monitor (from 2012 I think—it was excellent at the time, but showing its age). I think I prefer the QD OLED trade offs better than the WOLOLOLED ones. So I’m waiting for a 27” or 34” 4K to come with a better pixel arrangement (like the one in your 1440p 27”), as that will make text fully readable and without antialiasing issues.

Honestly, I don't see any banding at all. I opened discord up specifically just to check. Mine was pretty much good to go out of the box with only slight adjustments necessary.

On my end, it's probably mostly due to the fact that I changed my monitor gamma setting from 2.2 to 2.0. This makes spotting prone bush wookie campers in Battlefield quite a bit easier, as it brightens up those dark corners in buildings a bit. When I change it back to stock setting (2.2), the banding more or less goes away - but it's a little too dark for online shooters.
