It seems that Nvidia CEO Jensen "It Just Works" Huang is under a lot of stress. His company basically lost half their value during the last couple of months, RTX-sales are slow, they still sit on a shit-ton of GP104's due to the utter miscalculation of banking on mining (which is why it's possible to buy brand new 1060'ies (which originally used GP106-cores) with GDDR5X-support.

Hmm, what's the difference? LGA 1700 supported three generations. Sure, they were largely the same CPU with various improvements on subsequent generations.
That's precisely the difference. The promise now is not just the tock refreshes, but true generations as well. We'll see. There is no reason to trust Intel, but I think they are trying. Their latest mobile CPUs are good, and it seems they are getting their game on again for desktop and high-end desktop.
It's been 10 years? I've only upgraded to a 5700x3d like 18 months ago. It's still a great CPU and performs great on all games (except on 4k maybe, but I only use WQHD).

Its the other way around. The CPU becomes less important the higher the resolution is and the more you are GPU bound. It mostly impacts lows though.
Anyway, I'm still using an AM4 X370 Mobo by Gigabyte no less and due to bios updates it performs better now than when I bought it. The 5800X3D is still good enough for all my gaming needs as well. I just don't feel the need to upgrade at all.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
