i recently made a test with planescape torment, unpacked the textures, ran a few of the screens through my usual AI model. The improvement you can do to add both higher resolution and detail is quite incredible.
But yes, it would absolutely take quite a lot of time to do (1-3 months, a bit hard to estimate) but on the other hand it would look closer to other modern isometric 2D games and it would appeal to more people. An automated (and way more lazy setup) could also be done. It would be done over night, it would not look as good but much better than the original.
This is the ultimate, spend 3 hours rolling a party and then alt f4 when the game starts, experience.
I did beat it once and had fun, just wished it had a more interesting story/locations. The temple itself was kinda lame and I just found myself killing everyone. Maybe playing an evil party is the way to go
