It’s funny, because 8GB can’t even run Windows 11’s garbage. Laughing

Random quote regarding AI was quite good description of current situation:

'AI is just like a teenage sex. Everyone wants it, everyone talks about it, everyone thinks they know how to do it, at the same time everyone sucks at it.' Laughing

LLM are not even AI. They are glorified pachinko machines or pattern matching. There is nothing intelligent about them, even if they can fool us into thinking they are. The distance from LLM to AGI is basically the same as from CV to AGI or an if/switch statement to AGI.

I have already prepared a Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC ISO which lacks all that shit for my next install Laughing

I normally stay in Apple world for work, but I have a Windows laptop, and unbeknownst to me, was upgraded to Windows 11. Guess what, they've excluded all that garbage using group policy and it is all disabled. Laughing I feel like many organizations disable that shit, so who is left? Grandmas and gamers with their shitty Win 11 Home installs, who NEVER ASKED FOR THIS and yet they get ads and "A""I". Vomit

If gaming wasn't my thing, I would probably just use a Mac for daily tasks. Windows 11 is a mess (incosistent menus, still no Windows Hello PIN as UAC's default option, broken updates etc.). If only they could give a 5% of Copilot's energy to streamline the dark theme.

https://www.idc.com/resource-center/blog/global-memory-shortage-crisis-market-analysis-and-the-potential-impact-on-the-smartphone-and-pc-markets-in-2026/

Quote:
Global Memory Shortage Crisis: Market Analysis and the Potential Impact on the Smartphone and PC Markets in 2026

[...]

However, this is not just a cyclical shortage driven by a mismatch in supply and demand, but a potentially permanent, strategic reallocation of the world’s silicon wafer capacity. For decades, the production of DRAM and NAND Flash for smartphones and PCs was the primary driver for production. Today, that dynamic has inverted. The voracious demand for HBM by hyperscalers, such as Microsoft, Google, Meta and Amazon, has forced the three biggest memory manufacturers (Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology) to pivot their limited cleanroom space and capital expenditure towards higher margin enterprise-grade components. This is a zero-sum game: every wafer allocated to an HBM stack for an Nvidia GPU is a wafer denied to the LPDDR5X module of a mid-range smartphone or the SSD of a consumer laptop.

As a result, IDC expects 2026 DRAM and NAND supply growth be below historical norms at 16% year-on-year and 17% year-on-year, respectively.

[...]

The result of this supply/demand imbalance is twofold: DRAM and NAND/SSD prices have risen sharply in recent months, and the availability of these components is limited, forcing device manufacturers to navigate a fluid situation.

After RAM and GPUs now also SSDs' prices are rocketing. Grab one if you think you will need extra space before end of 2027.

GPU chips themselves are not in and of themselves a problem, just the RAM on the GPU. It’s the same reason SSD is also suffering, the raw materials are the same. Now there is talk about AI gobbling SRAM, which will have further downstream effects on CPUs and GPUs.
