You NEED stars to create money, hype, glamour, push the industry forward. Look at the insipid, unremarkable Taylor Swift.
They choose to make a star out of Clair Obscur because there's hardly anything better than this. It was convenient. And that "indie" dev studio is going to get bought / swallowed probably by some corporate / investment fund anyway.
For me, a conservative, none of these 2 should take home the title of best RPG.
Money or artificial hype=/= success (e.g. concord etc)
I did play and finish 30+games this year (newer and older titles) and this one was in the top 3.
What would you persoanlly say would have deserved game of the year or rpg of the year 2025?
Dunno if this is you but ppl complain about games being bad and nothing coming out while they barely play any games anymore and never go out of their comfort zone to try something new.
I can't say how many games I've played this year, but I've played at least 10, a lot of them indies. I don't know, I don't mind Clair Obscur as GOTY, I think the game is overrated, but it was good, and it is one of the best games this year. I think there were a lot of good games this year, but nothing especially amazing. I haven't played KC2 though, since I haven't finished the first one, but I'll play it in time. these games take a lot of time and investment so I have to pick and choose when to get in to them.
I think Clair Obscure deserves to be hailed as something good. It was a solid game, a new IP at a reasonable price from a small and new studio. That alone is a good thing, as long as they continue like that and don't get absorbed by some large publisher.
None, there was nothing that stood out as extraordinary as RPG.
For me.
For others, it might be KCD2, sure.
Speaking of KCD2:
"Do you really thing they want Daniel Vavra on that stage?! Of course they don't!"
Sounds legit. From here:
This is my opinion also:
Exp 33 won all this shite because they didn't upset anyone.
Now Vavra...
whats controversial about him now? They started pandering anyhow.
You say no game deserved the award while saying in another thread that they got robbed. Kinda weird.
If all it takes to win awards is just not to upset anyone why did Hell is us (one of the surprise games of the year for me) didnt win any award. (Or silksong... wait they got robbed too omg)
Anyhow ex 33 did win in the end like it or not.
Now soon we will have the steam awards and that one will be the deciding player driven award show
Spoiler:
...in whichwuthering waves will win all the prices just like they did win player's choice at thegameawards. So if it was up to the player's votes wuthering waves would have won goty.

According to WAB, the "elites deep state" made the Doritos Awards such a corrupt shit. Everyone has a bad taste from this trash, but lack the vocabulary to articulate their distaste in a way that doesn't fall into stereotypical political hyperbole.
And is that WAB retard supposed to be in touch with gaming?
agree on that
he hates on everything that is mainstream or not a genre he usually plays.
He reviews games he knows he wont like no matter what and throws in some obscure indies no one heard or care about and gives those a good review.
