Exactly the same rumours were around last year. Every "half-life leak channel" was claiming HL3 would get announed in the 2024 GA. Nothing. I don't believe anything until I see it, no hype. Valve is known to cancel games or completely scrap development at any point during the project if they are not happy, so even if HL3 were actually nearly finished, that doesn't mean Valve would release it.

Ignoring some of the most irrelevant awards like content creator of the year, mobile game, etc., the awards seem pretty spot on.
My objections are with the Best RPG where KCD2 should have won over Expedition 33 and the Best Audio Design which went to Battlefield 6, a shooter with a budget of over 200 million in which guns sound like peashooters. Arc Raiders' audio design is so much better.
I wish Split Fiction had some luck.

KCD and KCD 2 are almost the same game.
You might like the setting better etc but fact is that ppl still will talk about ex 33 in 10-20 years while kcd will be forgotten.
Anyhow these awards mean nothing anyhow.
Lukewarm announcemnts imo. Most game didnt have a release year (forget about release date) and the games that had were already announced before at some other show.
So happy that i didnt stay up for this.

Fallout 2 is almost the same game as Fallout 1. This is how your argument sounds.
I doubt many people who have enjoyed KCD have forgotten about it in the 7 years gap between the two games. And the success of KCD2 might prove just that.

I wouldn't compare fallout to KCD. It's not a revolutionary game.
KCD 1 had lots of issues and troubles i played it a year
and a half later and it still was a buggy mess besides performance issues and poor combat.
"hey lets run to captainbernahrdt and grind on him to have a chance at the start of the game " , "hey lets poach a boar in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere and you get still spotted and bget to be a criminal (great roleplaying and many more issues.
KCD 2 just made it so that most of the issues didn't exist anymore whereas Ex 33 is/was good from the begining without any baggage.You could argue plotholes in ex 33 but those exist in KCD as well and nonetheless ex 33 had a more influential story on most ppl imo.
People not like (preference wise) the turn based combat etc doesn't mean that kcd 2 deserved the award more imo.

NO, you can't know how the industry will "evolve" and what standards we'll have in the future, based on actual games.
And NO, you can't define for anyone else on this planet what will be / remain as standard or memorable.
Walking in rain back to Skalitz in KCD1 (this quest: https://kingdom-come-deliverance.fandom.com/wiki/Homecoming) - has created such an unforgettable memory, that I'll take with me into my gamer grave. |
You can't either.
You, me nor someone else can quantify why the other game should win an award over the other.
But here we are still talking about it.
Youtube+twitch reddit etc in almost all gaming spaces ex 33 was mentioned for goty while kcd 2 just got mostly mentioned after the award show in the gaming subs and forums i follow.
I think ex 33 will be more influential and memorable because it introduced new ppl to the "jrpg" genre (no i dont wanna argue what an jrpg is or isn't) but contrary to the genre main stream it had a darker story/themes and a more reactive combat than most of it's peers.
Ask yourself this:
Do you see a huge tantrum or backlash because KCD 2 didn't get GOTY or best RPG? (imo no)
Would the same be the case if EX 33 didn't get these?

You make a star out of what you got.
You NEED stars to create money, hype, glamour, push the industry forward. Look at the insipid, unremarkable Taylor Swift.
They choose to make a star out of Clair Obscur because there's hardly anything better than this. It was convenient. And that "indie" dev studio is going to get bought / swallowed probably by some corporate / investment fund anyway.
For me, a conservative, none of these 2 should take home the title of best RPG.
