The games you admit to enjoying i dont think you should say another word about what games people play Laughing

To me it was 5/10. It was just what it was. Could have been a heck of a lot more.

Finished the campaign in 13 hours on Hard (though in retrospect I should have opted for the Classic difficulty instead).

The story, while decent, was ultimately entirely predictable and cliche. The characters, apart from our protagonist, weren't given enough time to develop into anything, and as such, I felt nothing for any of them when their tragic fates ultimately came to pass.

The gunplay, however, WAS satisfying and punchy. Running and gunning would get you mowed down quickly on Hard or above, so sticky cover was the order of the day. The AI was a strange one - stealth wise, they were retarded. They also tended to funnel into kill spots a lot, but every so often a sneaky fucker would double back for a flank, often with devastating effect.

The upgrade system was pointless, both because they almost never gave you the opportunity to go back to the shop during missions, but also because the best upgrades blew all the others away in terms of viability - to the point where you'd be stupid not to pick certain ones over others. The cars and horses were also pointless - just a means to an end really.

The biggest tragedy, however, was the open world. Nothing was done with it. It was completely devoid and empty throughout the entire game. Guess that's what happens when you base a story out in the countryside on a volcanic island in 1905. Laughing

Ultimately, I regret the $35 I spent on it. At $20, however, I feel like it would have been worth it. Of all the Mafia games it was undoubtedly the weakest (Mafia III doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned). Cool that it exists, but nothing would have been lost if it didn't.
