Discover a bold, new story of a warrior in Japan who is on a mission of vengeance all her own.
Set 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei is standalone experience set in 1600s rural Japan. The story follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu. Thirsty for revenge, she travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who killed her family many years earlier.
Why the fuck couldn't they continue with Jin's story? Usually I have nothing against female protagonists (even Aloy from Horizon doesn't bother me like she does for most people), it doesn't looks natural with this setting. XVII century Japan doesn't scream "female freedom"
But game overall looks fantastic and tick all the right boxes, so I doubt I will be able to restrain myself from the day one purchase

Same reason ac shadows has a nigga and a woman. Virtue signaling as fuck
I've looked at the trailers and there's absolutely nothing that makes me interested. It's one thing to have nice looking vistas, but something else to make an immersive world with really cool level design, and i've seen no such thing here.
It's kind of the same in many of these games tbh, compare it to some super memorable maps from Elden Ring or DS, or why not even WoW or many of the Nintendo games (Zelda etc). Good luck finding something like that in these games.
What a disgusting game. Story and all that is barely OK. Its just revenge. Characters are fine. Combat is... OK.. But what makes it so disgusting is the Ubislop procedural bullshite. Mongoloid dev team said they wouldn't let us do the same thing over and over again like in the first game, but they sure did. Maybe even cranked it up some.
This is what lying through their teeth... Or fingers look like. Disgusting pigs.
Now after that whining, which is pretty much warranted, the areas look beautiful as expected... That was pretty much all the good to be said about it.
Another whine: You get the best armor basically in the beginning. What is up with that? I do not understand why game devs enjoy putting the best equipment in the beginning, or even what you start with, with niche stuff appearing later.
I've played maybe 8h and am still in the first zone/map doing all of the side stuff and:
- Main story was better in the first game. I mean the whole revenge plot is interesting but Jin's internal conflict was more gripping for me. I didn't do much main story, so it can still change in the future.
- Side quest are a mixed bag, some are clearly a fillers, but some are great/good (like the general mourning for his daughter or bounty for they guy who plays on a flute). Some missions reminded me (with its quality) side quests from The Witcher 3 or CP2077
- There is a lot of "Ubistyle" open world filler activities. I don't mind those, it relaxes me a lot doing them, but I can see how for some people it might be tedious
- Game itself is beautiful and sound design is the best I've seen in a long time (I didn't play Death Stranding yet)
From negatives:
- I'm playing with original Japanese VO with English subtitles an unfortunately not everything is translated. You go through village, people are saying something, but you have no idea what is it. It is a little bit annoying
- It doesn't differs from the first game that much. I don't understand changing of protagonist if we are keeping the game practically the same (I have the same problem with AC games)
- I would love to have some Journal within the game so I can see all the dialogs history and summary of the things that happened etc.. Playing in Japanese make it sometimes impossible to read all the subtitles and sometimes I'm like "fuck, what did they just say?"
For now it is a very good game slightly worse than Ghost of Tsushima (but I would probably grade them exactly the same).
