Who the hell is not registering and just watching ?!
Confused

Oh and don't mind the 8650 other users apparently hammering the website right now.
Lol since when the counter is broken?

Our record of 1006 concurrent users from 2005 was shattered by bots scraping for that sweet AI juice, sadly. The number of human guests is likely <100

It looks like several forums are having the same problem these days (e.g. RPG Codex had to go on Cloudflare because of the insane artificial traffic)

That and data scrapers. As the years go on, more and more exist trying to gather search, people, and so on results to aggregate to sell or use.

Could be either, or a mix of both.
My tiny 'private' website (open to public but not listed or advertised) I use for little things I want to play with webcode for, and FTP/storage for friends gets a 300-400 scapers/crawlers a day hitting it. It got so bad I had to make any subdomain/subfolder (something.website.com or website.com/something) you are not IP listed for takes you back to the main page telling you the 'contents have moved'.

I know what you meant was replying about the guests, not users. Smile

That makes sense.
Other forums I visit have gotten very slow too.
It's just kinda crazy how many these bots there are.
Even now 7664 guests. Must be some very light scripts because these many users would crash the site.

btw I remember 2005. gta san andreas iso release Very Happy
edit: that's especially concerning because nfohump is the last unknown bastion known to the internet... we are few but I always considered us eternal Cool This is like, the last forum on the internet not using any of the templates other palces do and that's great

I don't specifically know how these AI agents operate, but possibly they could be programmed in such a way to not put too much strain on a specific site, because when it crashed they get nothing? So maybe they can "determine" the sites load and adjust to scrape slower.

Also yeah, if this small forum here is hit so hard, just imagine what larger sites or infrastructures are going through. I hope you got all your data stored tight, because if it's just randomly accessible, it will not definitely be found, even if Google didn't get it in the past.

Well how would they know if interesting things are to be found here, if they don't look to confirm if it exist or not to be interesting? Razz

Yeah, those stupids bots are really making this forum slow now... I get an error message while loading a new page and then the page still pops up 3 seconds later.

Yep it's indeed far from optimal at the moment. For what it's worth, Mrt is aware of the ongoing Cylon invasion
