well leave a review or thoughts, i'm curious. though not bi-curious! höhöhöhö
I'm probably about half way. First things first. This is pretty much the best looking game that has been ever made. Looking forward to see if GTAVI beats it. Death Stranding 2 will have the edge with the fantasy elements where Kojima does whatever the fuck he wnats and can look spectacular whereas GTA is more visually grounded in reality and will probably fade off into normalcy quite quick
Gameplay is same old same old. Now i don't remember all the gadgets of the first, but here is a ton of gadgets... you'll never use. Power armor and bike like the first game and you're set. People already paved much of the road so it's rare that i can't proceed with my bike
Storywise it's OK. And just OK. Feels like it's a forced sequel due to popularity more than a natural continuation of the story. Kojima needs to be reigned in a bit as the characters are weird. They look american but they don't behave like it. Probably a mix of Japanese sensibilities and perceived american ones.
Music is great, but plays a bit too late. You'll have to stop and listen.
Map is... Well for me it's shite. I'll spoiler this bit:
Spoiler:
We started in Mexico and i loathe deserts in games. WE got wind of having a gate which can teleport you to a different place. And that place is Australia and can you guess what biome Australia has? First game beat this games world by a lot.
I fucking hope not. She's the least beautiful woman in the game. She's been hit by the modern ugly stick and i believe she's the only one. Probably a demand by herself.
I watched some Twitch guy playing it at random and I saw this part:
Since it might be story spoiler
Spoiler:
-Hey Reedus Feetus (says a faceless clothing-store looking mannequin), I need you to do something huge.
-I don't know who you are, you're faceless and your agenda is unknown. I won't do shit unless we meet face to face. You might make me do things that could be catastrophic if a dickhead would profit from it.
-Allow me to assume via hologram the face and voice of someone you trust

Despite the ridiculousness of the situation, it works, because Reedus Dickus goes
Ah, it's all good,

How in hell does it make sense?
I know nothing about the plot but Christ was that retarded.

+ this is an awesome tech demo, great grounds for a new MG5-style thing. It's visualy gorgeous.
- I admittedly don't know anything about the plot, but this is japcrap on steroïd. Could Kojima ever survive if he stopped huffing his own farts? This Japanese flavour of "make things overly complicated so it's gonna sound smart" crap is so tiring.
It's probably a culture thing, I don't know. But it's idiotic at every turn and typicaly takes me out of the story/narrative fast, having my eyes rolling out of my skull. Like their fascination of having 10 yo running Interpol/CIA or some shit.
I'm sorry but it's just fucking stupid.

Man, you've taken the words right out of my mouth. Worse are the fans that pretend to 'get it', but the thing you 'get' is typically nonsense once you have all the pieces to figure out what's actually happening.
MGS with this game's mechanics (rappelling, gadgets, different tech to overcome obstacles etc) would be AMAZING. Wasted potential ImoOOoo.
I remember someone doing a deep dive into how silly DS1 was, like 100+ plot holes, just total utter nonsense . That did make me a bit less interested in the game i have to say not that i expect games to have good story, it's a 1 in a 1000 chance of that, so at the end of the day maybe i dont really care as long as there's cool exploration etc.

I think most sane people thought the same while playing through that part. You're underselling the screne a bit. Sam gets enthusiastic and starts talking to the mannequin as if it's die hardman. It was a bad scene, really.
This is why i mentioned Kojima needs to be reigned in or have a copilot. It's important that he gets to create what he wants, but someone got to tell him when it's too absurd or abstract and disconnected from reality. He doesn't strike me as particularly intelligent. Artistic to a nth degree for sure, but not very bright.
23 hours in and it’s an incredible game TBH.
I would even consider calling it an incredible experience.
I really enjoyed Death Stranding despite having to watch countless videos to understand it afterwards so it’s not surprising that I like the sequel and the first 10 hours of Death Stranding 2 are very similar but the more you play it, the wilder and crazier it gets.
It’s pretentious and cringy bullshit on a massive scale at times but I can’t deny how much of a great time I’m having with it.
One of the more surprising and impressive things is the fact I’ve had zero crashes, bugs or glitches. I just like how everything just works and there’s some great quality of life features and mechanics that make it far more enjoyable than it has any right to be.
It’s safe to say if you didn’t like the first game, you won’t like this but for everyone else, I reckon it’s an easy 9/10 and honestly may even be a serous GOTY contender and if not, I personally think it should be.
Girl next door materlial if you don't live in bangladesh.
About the game though, is it just another apocalyptic UPS delivery simulator?
Its not my type of game at all. But from friends that played the first one, and looking forward to this one..the answer is..yes(?).
Its heavy story based that is engaging enough to drive you forward to overcome the difficult game mechanics to see it play out. I don't mean difficult as in cumbersome, but overtly challenging tedium to make the payout of the story unfolding feel rewarding.
To me it's like watching a movie you really want to see, by having to spin plates on a stick to power the projector. But then again I don't get games like that to start with. If I want to enjoy a story, I will read a book or watch TV so I don't have to work for it
But if you are the type to really like games for the story 1st, and like the game mechanics to have weight 2nd, because your effort 'powers the projector with work you put in to see the next scene' you might like it.

Its not all that story heavy. There are sections with longer cutscenes, but for the most part its short ones and interruptions in the flow. Do one quest > cutscene > back to HQ to rest > short cutscene > head out for next mission. Rinse and repeat until you hit a bigger story section
A 1:1 replica of the iconic in-game item worn by Sam and Fragile, the Ring Terminal is crafted in collaboration with Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa. Translating this symbolic object from screen to reality required a completely new design approach, balancing artistic vision with functional form. Its unconventional shape and layered structure made it far more complex than a traditional ring, demanding micro-engineered techniques to bring it to life.
Not to shit on it, as I like some weird ass niche games, and games with a lot of walking/traveling/gathering.
But I am stumped. How is this such a big mainstream gamers game? I thumbed through an entire playthrough video. And 90% of the time wherever I stopped and watched for 5-10 minutes, it was him running/biking/driving somewhere (or some cutscene between doing that, like wolf said)..that's it for most the game?
The same time sink all survival/crafting/builder games have (and more of it) without any game mechanics other than that in-between it?
I could see how it would be a niche game for people that like that, like how roadcraft/snowrunner is for people that like driving in mud and not much else.
I guess my question is, what do the mainstream gamers see in it? I'm not saying they cannot enjoy it, I'm confused why so many do.
It seems the majority of the gameplay, is the thing turns them off from games with things to do other than that:
I don't want to run around all over the damn place for hours just to gather stuff to craft and build gear/base/items.
Then this game: I want to run around all over for hours gathering stuff, and not do anything with it other than hand it to NPC's so they can talk at me.

A MGS6 based on this engine COULD (being the operative word ) be awesome to say the least.
But what you said above is a ray of lucidity that I'm glad we share

It's Kojima my man. Kojima the lord and saviour of gaming. Just consume don't ask questions.
I finished previous DS and I think it's one of the worst games I have played in my life. In the beginning I was mesmerized by the open space and music by Low Roar. But after a couple of hours the game was basically requiring you to hold two buttons simulatniously and one for going in particular direction and you couldn't fall no matter what. That was the game which was apparently too hard for 90% of players and some pseudophilosophical story told by every a and b list actor and director Kojima wanks to.
