Reinstall DirectX from the games disc or search for "directx_feb2006_redist.exe " (50 megs) and download and install. ZX81 fanboy.

I had this same problem when I ran Age of Empires 3 for the first time. Here's how to fix it...download and open this zip file (approx. 1 MB in size) :

Extract the .dll file to the main directory of the game and all should be well.
