im not even gonna ask how pike was in discovery , isnt discovery hundreds of years after ?
isnt this the new timeline after this romulan driller went back in time, saw his world exploded and went armageddon on everyone in one of the movies where vulcan also is destroyed ?
gosh thats so lazy of them to not even bother doing a recap and expecting me to know all this, shame on them
Discovery takes place at the same time as original series. It's Klutzman verse.

God, ship action in ST is so horrible.
"our shields are at 40%, whatever shall we do?"
Stand perfectly still for 2 minutes while we discuss our options......

Meh, to me that and similar stuff are minor issues that I can easily ignore. This show was needed after the dumpster that is Discovery. When that show kept getting renewed I truly believe the Star Trek franchise was really dead. Out of the blue (well, to me anyway) we get Strange New Worlds which is a visually and thematecally great amalgamation of TOS and TNG. It will be interesting to see if they can keep this course.
Its honestly as close as it gets nowadays. I recently rewatched the TOS episode "Arena" because of the S01E04 of Strange new worlds and its practically unbearable to watch the action scenes.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
The male doctors accent and voice are atrocious. It’s so hard to follow wtf he’s saying. But on the flip side the white haired chick is mega hot, and speaks normally.
This last episode again. I am wholly entertained by this.

I finally got around to watching this over the last few days and overall it is better than Discovery which is not hard to do really but the way season 1 ended makes me a bit worried for season 2 as it seems like it will be the start of a longer storyline that will probably last multiple episodes and that is where these new Trek shows have failed.
I enjoyed it. There was good stuff and some bad stuff. Episode 5 & 8 were clearly fillers, although there was some funny stuff in ep5. Ep10 ended with cliffhangers, but was impressive. Looking forward to season 2 also 10 Eps. It will start 15 June, and every week a new Ep.
Paramount+, Prime Video or Google TV?

5 episodes in, it now finally clicked for me what is wrong with the season.
It's the fixation on emotional storytelling. Solutions to various problems are rarely science-based but often grounded in emotions. Arguments in this show are mostly emotional, not rational. Emotional states and feelings are too much in the foreground. Character development takes precedence over the main storyline arcs. The 90's shows had much more stoic and rational acting characters.
Now don't get me wrong, it is a good and entertaining show with high quality visuals and very Star Trek-like themes within the episodes.
Looking forward to every new episode. But it is this overbearing focus on emotional storytelling that causes me zone out constantly.
Well, i'm glad they manage to have some fun like the good old days. Anyone who've seen old scifi shows know they've got episodes like this on occasion. Been gone in recent years as everything always gotta be so dead serious and "realistic"
Only 30% of the episode was cheesy, fun, ironic musical. The Klingons singing really got a chuckle out of me. Yeah, could have worked if you allow yourself to not take it seriously.
The problem is that the other 70% of the episode was genuine, serious musical.
Great. Glee in space. With all the auto-tune to get you really vomiting
Overall this season is getting weaker, and unfortunately beginning to have Discovery vibes
