MotoGP 19's isodemo is out, from the few races I've played it definitely feels like an improvement over last year's wimpy version.
The tracks (finally) have proper lighting and the production values overall are higher, quite reminiscent of Codies' F1 series. The physics will never be fully simulative, but with the aids disabled and TCS/AW electronic settings on 0 the handling is more demanding than the previous games and losing control of the bike is something that can happen frequently if one doesn't pay attention. Dynamic weather is still absent and many other aspects are underdeveloped, but it's something.
There's been some tuning involving the ol' kamikaze AI as well, a tad more human now although it doesn't exactly qualify as reliable. They'll still try to murder you when you least expect it
So I've been binging Milestone games recently and finally came back to this after having deemed this unplayable on a derptroller. I was wrong, of course. My mistake was trying to play with the helmet cam (the one attached to the rider's helmet, not the one attached to the bike's dashboard), which is very difficult. Using chase cam (and practice) is a lot more easier to gauge where the bike is on the road and how much to tilt it to tackle corners. The current challenge is preserving tires. It seems soft tires seem to go way too quick for me. Maybe they should? Not familiar with bike tires.
The career seems heavily inspired by F1, which is good, I like the F1 career structure—it should be the default thing racing games copy when creating a career mode. The lack of budget is apparent, but still, it's done rather well.
Yeah, it's recommended to first learn the track, its braking distances (very important) and the bike's limits by using the chase cam and then go for the first person one. Unlike the previous more arcade iterations the 19 version simulates suspensions as well and the asphalt doesn't give you the superglue effect. I'm typically 2-3 seconds quicker when I use the third-person perspective, but I too prefer the more immersive dashboard (as always ).
If I recall correctly, in real life soft tyres are mostly used with low temperatures and with tracks that are not too demanding, though their degradation is affected by the driving style as well. The majority of drivers prefer harder compounds since with all the overtakes and imperfect trajectories using the soft tyres more often than not would lead to some catastrophic final laps where the bike becomes an undrivable beast.
Tell me about it!
I barely manage to keep the mediums at check, and the hard tires are not competitive at the start of the race. I have disabled tire wear for now. It's too much worrying, both to keep the bike on the road, overtake (the AI is hard) and think about tires.
The 20 version feels essentially like a reskin of 19 in terms of visuals/menus, but with Earlyaccessian traits due to the work-in-progress coronacontents and with altered braking mechanics that I'm finding a bit hit and miss.
Having more visual feedback is a plus that enhances realism (on paper), the problem is that Milestone have gone too far with the wobbling, leading to over-the-top power sliding since in its current state it's also harder to actually lose control of the bike. I guess we'll have to wait and see how things will evolve with the various updates, unless the patched-up version will be MotoGP 21
Motoiso21 is pretty much what the 2020 version should have been in the first place, which sums up the art of releasing such yearly reskins. It's solid though, there's an increased focus on realism but without overdone behaviours and the experience is challenging as long as all the helps are disabled, especially if you decrease the various extra TCS, AW, EBS and PWR as well (it works about the same way as it does in ACC and its TC/ABS).
There are bugs and the AI is still reckless (a trademark) but at least they make mistakes too now, albeit too frequently and in goofy ways like some sort of Road Rash re-enactment. I lol'd when I found out that you have to manually control your guy after a crash, the movements look so silly but bonus points for the authenticity - and for bringing back some nice SBK 2001 memories..still their best game :')
Briefly tried the fresh reskinisodemo, it's...well, you know what it is. There are some improvements though, like the addition of variable weather conditions and a few handling-related tweaks, with the most notable one being the way the bike turns - quicker and more responsive overall. The AI is still imperfect but it's mitigated by the fact that it's harder to crash now. As for the visuals, they are largely the same, which means they're definitely starting to show their age at this point.
