There have been many attempts to adapt The Long Walk, originally published under Stephen King's pseudonym Richard Bachman, but now it looks like it may become a reality. In November 2023, it was announced that Lionsgate was developing with project with JT Mollner writing the script and The Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes' Francis Lawrence is directing. The dystopian story follows a group of young men who compete in an event that forces them to walk until they drop, and production took place in late summer 2024.
A group of teenage boys compete in an annual contest known as "The Long Walk," where they must maintain a certain walking speed or get shot.
Filmmakers: Francis Lawrence (Director), JT Mollner (Screenwriter)
The shooting has commenced and should thus be in post-production for a 2025 or possibly a 2026 release. There's a number of Stephen King movies and shows coming out in 2025 and perhaps they'll try to spread out King releases so they don't compete with each other. Just a guess on my part since there's no release date announced yet.
From the highly anticipated adaptation of master storyteller Stephen King’s first-written novel, and Francis Lawrence, the visionary director of The Hunger Games franchise films (Catching Fire, Mocking Jay – Pts. 1&2 , and The Ballad of the Songbirds & Snakes), comes THE LONG WALK, an intense, chilling, and emotional thriller that challenges audiences to confront a haunting question: how far could you go?
