"FX has not yet renewed Shōgun for a second season. Despite the show’s massive success, it will likely not receive a Season 2 renewal. Co-creator and showrunner Justin Marks told The Direct in February that Season 1 concludes "exactly where the book ends.”"
it was great all the way to the end, there is no need for a season 2 since everything is tied up
my minor dissapointment would be the lack of action since trailers suggested it many times, was very misleading. in the beginning u think the story would lean into a more battle side but actually goes down a very different path.
but it was really great in the end and a nice surprise, one of the best shows in recent years, probably win many awards and more roles for not tom hardy in the future too
There's six novels https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Saga and from what I read, some of them are pretty adaptable. But for marketing purposes, the name Shogun will likely remain as the title like Game of Thrones

think people want the continuation of shogun but that book seems done so they would come up with new story. doing the rest of the books in the saga means more like an anthology? they seem years apart in the timeline with new characters?
It was pretty good, even though a few things didn't make sense.
No spoiler, but the event between end of E09 and beginning of E10 is ludicrous in it's happening and conclusion.
Pretty solid show, although I strongly think the main guy is a miscast: He almost always overact, and his "cute lost little puppy" looks matched with strong, even violent dialogues and/or actions seem out of character and place.
Also, they could have at least given us one truely incredible battle/fight scene.
Those time pieces always heavily rely on foresty outdoors/palace interiors for most of their scenes, since no pesky car, plane or modern infrastructure can be in the shot, and that severly limits your visuals, unless you heavily rely on (always terrible-looking) CGI, which is a bit of a shame.
I'd still advise people to watch it, and give it a solid 7/10

For now, FX and streaming partner Hulu are saying that they are working with the estate of Shōgun author James Clavell to develop two additional seasons.
There is no mention of a green light, and a start date for production has not been set, but a writers’ room is being assembled and will begin this summer. There is also no information on source material, whether the new seasons will stay within the Shōgun universe or will also draw from the other books in Clavell’s Asian Saga.
I had the show sitting in my gargantuan backlog and finished watching it a couple of weeks ago, it is an honorabru work considering the cursed age we're in, but with more caveats than I expected which ultimately got in the way of the samurai(tm). The goofy protagonist with his constant attempts to normalize awkward mannerisms didn't help, and neither did the zig-zag-y trajectory of the drama that couldn't quite reach particularly grand heights. The production values, their authentic and grounded tone alongside the dialogues delivered by the Japanese cast felt solid though, it's a story worth experiencing for those elements alone. So close to greatness, yet so far. I practically echo what HubU said above
