Now there's a security hole with this whole looking glass thing and experiment extensions.

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/7kjn4y/security_is_a_real_issue_of_the_looking_glass/

Quote:

The process for the deployment was not followed. Very few people knew that it was being deployed. There's no sign of anyone having reviewed the code before it was deployed. Even if the thing that was installed this time was moderately harmless, what prevents them from installing a more hazardous program?

All shield studies are supposed to have a tracking bug, but the one for Looking glass was marked private (since the beginning) and actual Firefox devs do not have access to it, which is suspicious too.

Firefox Profilemaker

Quote:

Welcome to the Firefox Profilemaker!

This tool will help you to create a Firefox profile with the defaults you like.

You select which features you want to enable and disable and in the end you get a download link for a zip-file with your profile template. You can for example disable some functions, which send data to Mozilla and Google, or disable several annoying Firefox functions like Mozilla Hello or the Pocket integration.

Each Setting has a short explanation and for the non obvious settings links to resources describing the feature and the possible problems with it.

It seems like there's a ongoing issue with hardware acceleration on Windows 7 and NVIDIA GPU's since at least a few driver releases back.

From that bug topic and the Reddit thread I found it on ( https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/7qbzyd/firefox_quantum_crashes_gtx_1080_driver/ ) it seems the latest nightly build has landed a workaround at least but from the bug thread it seems to mostly involve disabling a setting for hardware acceleration.

Advanced layers or layers.mlgpu.enable-on-windows7 as the setting itself seems to be called.

At least it could be worked around although it needs to have a setting disabled, unlike with AMD GPU's where hardware acceleration continues to be hit & miss. Razz
(At least for Firefox.)

Looks like there's been a lot of issues with Symantec certificates lately (About 30 in total now from that Wiki article on it.) so now Google and Mozilla are revoking a lot of these following what sounds like Symantec not complying too well with the discusses issues over the course of several years of reported incidents.

Will be a gradual change though it seems the current beta and daily builds might have some of these already, at least the daily builds.

What's different in FF 60 ? I just updated and it looks the same?

Or is it under the hood stuff?

Mostly under the hood stuff as they're focusing on speed and usability for 2018, web render should be a big improvement but it's been pushed to v64 and it'll start on NVIDIA likely due to them having far less issues with hardware acceleration and compatibility even if there's been some in the recent drivers though it should be resolved now.

I'm on the beta channel myself, 61b3 at the moment but it doesn't seem all that different though there's some tweaks.

For individual build updates I mainly follow these posts.
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23

And then the roadmap for Firefox here.
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Roadmap

Though the full version and beta release notes can have some info as well. Smile

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/61.0beta/releasenotes/
(Since it's in beta it'll change as development continues and eventually finalizes though it's mostly stable for the beta branch and the bleeding edge changes are in the daily builds.)

I think i might be having a tiny issue. After dunno, scrolling a lot of FB posts and decide to do a long reply on one of 'em, the typing becomes slower...SSD even btw..

Ever since i have the FF60ver...Back then nope. Maybe it's random. I tought it'd be W7 slowing down randomly as it does sometimes, forcing me to press Windows+Tab to recover the speeds etc..

Laughing I had the exact same issue yesterday, where my Facebook tab would suddenly became very slow. And after opening it, i also had to wait several seconds before other tabs would show something again.
I'm still on 59.x though.

Per page or per site? Per site is Firefox should Firefox remember by default, I'm not sure there's a per page zoom thing.

well, lets say i visit NFOHump and set the Text and Page zoom to 145%, so i can read everything just fine from my sofa..

Then i visit Guru3d, but there i need 120% to get a good reading going..

Now, there was an addon that did exact that, save the text and page zoom so it remembers it for the next visit..

But that addon does not work anymore with zee Quantum and Fioefox itself doesnt have this option anymore. only one zoom level for all..

the addon i was using is named "NoSquint" or so...

Confused hmmm, aint working for me...
maybe cause i use ESR?

i shall try a new FF profile and see if it works there..

still this addon was awesome..you could do everything with ur mouse, set zoom levels, etc..without having to use the keyboard..

edit:

nope, does not save the per page zoom level, as soon as i close the tab it was default again. (i made a new profile with Quantum Default settings)

found this..
gonna check that out:
lets see if i get that to save each site/domain..

Quote:
18. Same Zoom Level for Every Site

Firefox remembers your zoom preference for each site and sets it to your preferences whenever you load the page. If you want the zoom level to be consistent from site to site, you can toggle the value of browser.zoom.siteSpecific from “True” to “False.”

Default value: True
Modified value: False (enable same zoom preferences for every site)
19. Setting Your Zoom Limit

If you find that the max/min zoom level is still not sufficient for your viewing, you can change the zoom limit to suit your viewing habits.

Config name: zoom.maxPercent
Default value: 300 (percent)
Modified value: any value higher than 300

Config name: zoom.minPercent
Default value: 30 (percent)
Modified value: any value

hmmmmmm, in about:config its set to: browser.zoom.siteSpecific = TRUE

but its not working Sad

I don't know what's broken for you, Firefox does remember (and always has) zoom levels per site. I've just tried the config setting and that doesn't seem to do anything though (the false setting). Although I've not tried a restart of Firefox.

What version of firefox are you running?

Apparently beta and nightly need to change `Components.utils.import` to `ChromeUtils.import`.

But anyways, don't use this now, use the semi-official fix of clicking on this link and letting it install:
Code:
https://storage.googleapis.com/moz-fx-normandy-prod-addons/extensions/hotfix-update-xpi-intermediate%40mozilla.com-1.0.2-signed.xpi

This is the fix Mozilla has published to be installed via shield studies, but skipping the shield studies part. You can be sure it's not malicious because it is signed by Mozilla... and if your browser installed unsigned extensions you wouldn't be looking for this solution in the first place.

Thank goodness. I just went into about:config and changed xpinstall.signatures.required from true to false and my adblockers, privacy stuff etc. is back.

This would explain why every single add-on was not only disabled, but completely removed from listing. I had to search for and re-install each one again. This has never happened in IE or Chrome.. Explains why Firefox will always be 3rd fiddle with BS bugs like this.

You have scripts for that as well you know... and I really don't see why you rather have the American model of corporations fucking your data in every hole. They like to throw limits on us... time we show them some limits as well.

As to firefox, I saw only 4 hours of an internet without my addons... and holy fucking hell its even worse than I imagined. Ad space bigger than articles is common.

All the add-ons were there, just disabled. Everything worked fine again after the update.
