As did one specific chapter where maneuvering around the map was extremely tedious

That's the point at which I ditched the game. Even though I liked it quite a lot, I just got fed up with that area, especially since I got some other interesting games at that time and never went back to WotR. I guess I should finish it, right? |
I don't blame ya one bit. That chapter has prevented me from replaying... and keep in mind that I played such an early version that was riddled with bugs and broken quests and I *still* was engaged but that chapter was annoying. In retrospect, I should've waited until now with all the DLCs... but, as you describe, so many games so little time. And in all honesty, I think I achieved my own personal perfect playthrough with it, that I don't really feel the need to replay (still need to hit BG3).

30hrs of that would go to the first time I tried to play it, then left it to get updates for a couple of years
I liked it better, but the incredible difficulty spikes are still a thing. I had no problem moving it down to normal each time I hit one, it was really dumb. Eg: random enemies being stronger than the final or optional bosses. It makes no sense. Especially when I am using every buff under the sun, I'm fully leveled and so on.
It feels like there are many branching areas, characters who can die or live throughout the entire campaign, and it actually (for once) feels like evil path vs good vs about 5 others are viable options.
I enjoy the map exploration so that was no big deal.
There's one thing I'm dreading in the future, it's that these guys will try to copy Baldur's Gate III. Everyone wants to fuck everyone, less regions to explore, everything turns into a joke, it's fully voiced etc. Fuck that shit. I really hope they keep going as they have been.
If I ever replay it, it won't be for a long time though!

since they stopped making pathfinder games i would hope they would go for a Warhammer: Age of Sigmar crpg. Anyhow I wonder what they cook up next regardless.

Ok, so it has more regions to explore than BG3? nice.
I have a friend, he's replayed WotR at least 10 times at this point. Crazy i know he said the last time that he doesn't even have to play it on Normal any longer.
I'm getting old and lazy, i almost fear getting into deeper RPG's like these, so they're just endlessly sitting in my backlog.

I love the mechanics and the graphics, the interface, everything. But I HATE the over-the-top power fantasy this one has, AC goes up to insane numbers and the Angel etc. abilities just clog everything, nah, much preferred the down-to-earth and rags to riches approach of Kingmaker.

#2 annoys me to no end.
its based on pathfinder, a tabletop RPG. Why is combat showcased as reflex and pushing buttons fast? Part of being 'powerful' in tabletop is the slow turn based combat that lets you stop and think what exactly would, say a seasoned level 10 wizard, use here?
Doesn't the mentioned style devolve what would be the action of a a honed and trained wizard would perfectly picks to use, to a button mashing 'biggest damage spell left' feastival?
I know later it says you can switch to turn based combat if you get tired of real time. Shouldn't it be the other way around? If turn based is too slow?
This feel like if they made a Doom game, that was turned based...it defeats the essence of how the actual game its based on is formed around.

@SumZero There is a pause button - you don’t need to have fast reflexes - you can plan and think as much as you want. The encounters are designed for real time with pause with lots of chaff enemies and waves of baddies. It gets extremely boring in turn-based.

Yes, this is exactly my complaint about this game. Either you play real-time and it's an absolute travesty of the system it's based on, or you play turn-based and it takes forever because of the endless grind. I wish they'd stop forcing turn-based systems into RTWP in video game adaptations.

i've given it around 5h. can't say i'm having fun. maybe i'm just over these games or im not in the mood for them. BG3 was at least a bit more fun, the combat felt better i think.
This does feel like BG1-2 though, with the typical annoyances, i begin casting a spell and either the combat is over or i'm dead before its cast, lol.
Nah. I can't help but comparing it to how fun it felt to play for example Gothic 3, which was the RPG i played before these 2, not that its especially similar, i'm just saying i had way, way more fun.
