Heh, its funny looking back at the first few pages. Daikatana was mentioned and it was only 4 years old. Morrowind was only 2 years old. The original Half Life was less than 6 years old, but somehow relative to 2004, 98 seemed from the stone edge. Things were moving so fast then that 2 years was enough to feel extremely old and dated. maybe the AI is dumbed down in the end because it eats too much CPU..
yup, and this sucked... the AI can do so much more than what the game ended up implementing, mods does take advantage of it though (it wasn't removed from the construction set itself, just from the game). This is my favorite TES game btw but mainly because i modded the absolute shit out of it.
I just love how generic and often predictable it is, makes it feel like an homage to older RPG's like M&M for me, even if that's not its intention at all, i think they were just trying to make it rather LOTR-like (because they knew the movies were going to get huge).
All I see is upsides:
- free games
- no need to buy a gpu that is 1.1x faster than it's 3yo predecessor, wow ()
- mod support from the get go
- no hammered in "muh diversity" hopefully
Give me all the Skyblivions, Skywinds, FO Capital Wastelands, F4NVs, FO Londons and FO Miamis out there

I liked the setting, but not much else. While in Skyrim many things work much better but I was fed up enough by THE DRAGONZZZ (fucking 2011. and everyone and their grandma jumping on the Dragons bandwagon). Hopefully this really happens.
Replayed it on the XBox recently, 4k, 16x AF and AutoHDR but none of the mods and community bug fixes.
It works, though part of the charm is the writing and humor.
If they remake it I am curious how that will work out, intended or not the goofiness of how things actually look and the uncanniness of the NPCs and even key characters are part of the charm of how bloody dense and willfully idiotic or oblivious some of these inhabitants of Cyrodil are and their various requests and discussions.
Need more idle dialog though, Skyrim is bleak and kinda boring and grim-ish but that is one area where it excels, there's more than one or two lines and some generic endless banter about mudcrab sightings to be heard.
Some tweaks to the AI systems as well, Bethesda wanted a more living world but some NPC trek all over it and are a real pain in the arse to find and track down as a result, although they at least can't get themselves killed off or do other weird things unless the player is nearby to observe some of these things directly.
Leveling is also something to be considered, you don't really have to but the game pushes to get those +3 or greater, ideally +5 to attributes by focusing skills.
Although with the diminished number of skills you can't really overextend into much more than the magic category though some of the generics like athletics or swimming are poor picks.
But it could also be similar to what the XBox already does with its backwards compatibility program, you get a 4k60 focused visual experience and little else maybe running through a different engine for portability to newer platforms but still more akin to a remaster effort than a proper remake.
It'll preserve the goofiness of how things look and the artistic style of pseudo-realism but very bright and colorful even before the Shivering Isle expansion area.
EDIT:
It doesn't kinda fit with the chiseled granite look that Skyrim rolls with, on the other hand NPC in Oblivion are truly ugly but the style and "charm" fits with the dialogue and tone of the game, some improvement might still be possible however.
I'm looking at these recent videos and the screen on their front page (https://skyblivion.com/) they seem to have made all of Oblivion into a pine forest? Uh, why?? They don't think we've seen enough of pines, most of us coming from Skyrim? It's also a very recent change i believe, it didn't look like this some months ago.
The original lore of Cyrodiil (if you've read the books) is super cool, it's actually a jungle area. Such a missed opportunity to finally get a jungle area in a TES game and it would feel super fresh. Also if the supposed official Remake yet again just makes it a boring generic leafy forest this modding team would have something cool in comparison, but nah, let's make it look like Skyrim. okkk.
at least i guess i know what my next modding project might be
some "recent" leaks btw (insane! like always on youtube... :eyerolls myself to death:)
• A remake of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is in development by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5.
• The game is confirmed to be fully remade, implying significant changes compared to the original.
• Gameplay improvements include reworks to Stamina, Stealth, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and HUD.
yes, that's why i said; "at least i guess i know what my next modding project might be"
but i don't understand this change, it used to have the leafy trees, like the original.
maybe because of the LOD's though, it sucks doing any other tree for LOD's with this engine... they can look good from a few angles and then from some other angle it looks like shit. but we can even make 3D lods now, so its also not really an issue, just takes extra effort..
wow, i could not care less about fucking thumbnails like wtf, how easily triggered are you people? it's like when you're getting used to commercials, you kind of filter it out after a while.
did you start watching youtube like a week ago or something? it's been a thing for almost 20 years, including "annoying" thumbnails.
"oh no, someone smiled in a thumbnail, i really can't go to YT anymore!" okkkkkkkkkkkk
"oh no, someone smiled in a thumbnail, i really can't go to YT anymore!" okkkkkkkkkkkk
But it's not a smile. It's like the slimey version of a smile you'd get from used car salesman. You must know it's a marketing tactic used by Youtubers to generate clicks. As blackeyedboy stated:

obnoxiously fake smiling faces
Nobody wants to do it, they're doing it because they were told to. That alone would annoy most people. For me it's the expressions. I think it's hardcoded into my DNA to be repulsed by them. I really, really want to punch the screen when I see them.
