Surprisingly solid for a Netflix production. First part takes huge inspiration from the old movie Phone Booth, but it does get more actiony later on. It's simply a nice action-flick like they used to do "back then". No real criticism, apart from that it slightly overstays its welcome and could be 10-15 minutes shorter. Definitely worth watching. |
6.5/10 I was comparing it of course to Die Hard (1998), also Xsmas themed, and Cellular (2004)

The only thing I did not understand however was
Spoiler: | What exactly did he do in the luggage storage, when he "switched" the suitcases to a slightly larger one? I initially assumed he was going to give him the wrong one, but the bomb was still in it? The only thing where it mattered was that the bad buy couldn't fit it in the overhead section and it had to be put into the storage below. THAT was the plan?
Don't get me wrong, I have seen many movies with way more sillier plot points, but still, I am supposed to believe he managed to extract the whole contraption from the smaller suitcase, figure out the combination to the larger one (or use his TSA key which we never saw he has?) and put it in there within like 30 seconds? |
|
Spoiler: | Yep that's why I gave it only 6.5/10 They kinda fucked it up after that case switch. I had to reddit it to understand what was going on with the cases. It looked as thou they had to alter the script to make ends meet. So many convienient happenstances started to happen after that scene. Another thing I don't understand why didn't they ground the flight. Bateman's character wasn't suicidal, he was there for the money, he told as much to to our protagonist, so he wouldn't have activated the bomb while he was still on board, and the plane was grounded. |

Spoiler: | He activated the bomb after the toilet fight scene. So I'm not that sure about him not being suicidal. |

Alien: Covenant: 6/10. Watchable, but not entirely sold on the David plot.
Alien: Romulus: 7.5/10. Didn't expect this, but it was a nice one, well acted and looked great.
Citizen Kane: 8/10. What a weird movie.
PC: Yes. Console: No.

Gladiator II: Hanno vs Rafiki vs Sharknados vs Pedro -
With its questionable writing, improbable action sequences and CGI coming straight from Jumanji, poorly rehashed content, anti-charismatic protagonist and the constant feeling of watching something that shouldn't exist (a common trait that Scott's outputs of late share with each other - bar the surprisingly competent The Last Duel starring Mullet Damon), the movie perfectly encapsulates Hollyboo's sad state of affairs. They even got a ginger knock-off Commodus v0.5 delivered for the occasion just to add one more layer of memberberries to the mix. Basically, everything went exactly as expected.

Gladiator II - 5.5/10
Sad.
Spoiler: | Gladiator is awesome. You feel entwined with Harris' Marcus Aurelius' dream, Crowe's Maximus powerful and emotional odyssey, the Colosseum panem et circenses explicit violence (with a subtler political play), Rome's demise... and then some more: Phoenix's Commodus plotting and toying, Reed's growing and glowing empathy, Lucilla's tragedy... my point is, even if you knew this was a 100% Hollywood production, you felt with it, with every turn and punch to the stomach. It felt alive and whimsical, moreso with Zimmer's perfect score (he was at his prime imo)
Gladiator II felt like the same but without all of the above. Like Schrodinger's Scott. You can see him but you can't feel him. Such a shame.

Event Horizon: 7/10. OK.
Sunshine: 6/10. Basically another group of retards, eh astronauts, in space.
Prospect: 5.5/10. Doesn't have a whole lot going on.
Snowpiercer: 7/10. Movie is 30-40 minutes too long.
The Thing (OG): 8/10. Nice one.
World War Z: 7/10. Very hollywoodish, so turn brain off, but enjoyable to watch.
PC: Yes. Console: No.

Hm, I always found Event Horizon better than Sunshine. They are pretty comparable movies, I think, the plots are somewhat similar. Sushine has great CGI, but EH has the atmosphere.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Anora - 8/10
I was really sceptic about this movie after watching the trailer. I thought that it will be some TikTok style shit. Fortunetly it's pretty entertaining movie with some subtleties despite the tone. The first act could be shorter even if it has a plethora of boobies and asses.
