I started a warrior last night, and even though I was really struggling up until level 5 or so, it has quickly become my favourite class so far. The combat skills are great, the skill tree is really good and powerful, and the character just obliterates everything so far, even bosses. So much fun, and I only have about mid-tier gear (realtive to the start of Act 2, level 17ish).
What route/path are you doing? I am attempting to by a health regen/leech build and I’ve been solid for most enemies but poisons and some rapid lightening strikes from mobs has decimated me many times. I am wanting to go down the titan ascendancy.
Yeah, Act 2 sucks with all the lightning mobs/rares/elites. And the Bone Pit bosses were another major pain in the ass, I ended up doing that in a party because fuck whoever came up with that idea.
I am going for dmg and armour, but I might be completely wrong. Also, a bit of added fire dmg. I use 2-handed maces, never even bothered with a shield. I am once again struggling a bit in Act 2 (agree with Breezer that it sucks compared to Act 1), but not as badly as with my other toons. The merc and sorc in particular, which used to be godlike by the second half of Act 1. I guess I need to find/craft better gear once again. But doing so in every Act will get boring fast, especially with the shitty item drop rates.
I haven't even looked up the asendancies yet, but seeing how the trials are supposedly shite, I'm not too eager to do so, anyway.
Act2 is bad i agree. I've never understood gamedevs obsession with making you fight bugs, bats and other vermin.
I tried monk after leveling merc to early 20s and it's so much more fun.. i die a lot more though.. but far more fun. I'm not a big fan of grenades so i think i was probably not playing Merc "optimally"

I'm the same. I'm enjoying the game, other than the fact that I cannot use support gems twice, which is really annoying. Also figuring out WHICH I used already when going through my 40 of them in my stash.
But man that sewer and ancient template after it map seemed soooo long. I think I got 2-3 levels in my level 40's in each of them, just trying to find the damn end.
It's not that, at least for me.
I never used a movement gem in PoE1 on any of my characters and didn't feel like the maps were overly sized. (movement speed gear yeah, but the gems to bounce around? No. it was too much hassle to spam it over and over while waiting on its cooldown when moving)
Here even with movement speed gear: I expect the end soon, then get tired of not finding the end, and then spend 20 more minutes after THAT just pushing to the end so I don't have to redo the map if I logout.
Maybe a hot take for some but:
I'm on merc->witchhunter on my 30+lvls almost finished with act 2 i guess.
I think the game has several issues.
This game has the potential to be a 9/10 but atm for me it's a 7.5.
Some maps are too long and repetitive as fuck.
I created myself a great crossbow with giving it 2 slots etc and rerolling modifiers and if i hadnt id be stuck with a crappy main weapon even though i check the merchant after each level up and use thegambling merchant for a crossbow each level up aswell.
Build variety/or building a build on lower levels with merch isnt possible imo.
So yeah they got some stuff to do.
We'll see in a year i guess or maybe after i finish act 3 ill maybe change my mind.

My issues are the maps are too fucking large, I get that this due how combat works but the instance only lasts 15 minutes and if I do side map and return to main map I have to rediscover it with new mobs
How unbalanced skills and leveling are. I enjoy the slower more meticulous combat but I suddenly got level V gem, cut it into galvanic shots and was clearing mobs in a blink of an eye. Previous skills - level IV were shit compared to it. Entered next map and galvanic shot is shit now, it's like it lost its power, previous skills are even shittier. WTF?
How some monster work - it's a mystery. I fight Gargoyles why my shots sometime damage them and sometimes not?

Yeah Merc sucks. Maybe they get better as the game goes on but it was painful till i got galvanic shots, and even then when i hit enemies with resistances that started to suck too (i think thats what you're running into).
Monk with lightning skills doesn't run into any of that and i melted bosses in under 30 seconds whta took me 5minutes and a few tries to do with merc. Monk actually feels like PoE1
Agree that the "game" is very unbalanced in its current state, especially skills and some mobs. It also sucks that you cannot get elemental resistances from the skill tree, and gear gives fuck-all. The maps are indeed way too large (just started Act 3 last night, and ffs, I had to play about 2 hours longer tha n Ihad intended because I wanted to clear a fucking map so that I do not have to go back there again...). This, however, could be tackled by giving some sort of movement bonus flask. Or at least some temporary buff after clearing a map completely.
And some of the bosses... whoever came up with them should be fucking impaled and quartered.
Unfortunately, I agree that the merc sucks, especially compared to how fun it was in Act 1. Which is the best Act, anyway. Some of the maps in 2 are terrible, and from what I've seen of Act 3, the levels are just way too expansive.
Told ya act3 maps are insanely sized.
The one with water locks, and the one after it I was actually saying on Discord with my friend: Where in the FUCK is the end of this map???
And I think I lucked out on my witch build, because my friend is struggling on his witch going a different direction than me, and I barely have to stop walking while I kill mobs, and bosses are annoying but not nearly impossible.
While for him he has to jump around like a madman on average mobs to not die, and I had to help him with every boss as he couldn't get them.
And it's not his build is bad, I tried to help him streamline and tweak it. Just the balance of skill gem combos are WILDLY all over the place. The one I ended up on is OP as hell, and he is gimped no matter how you try to mix max it.
I actually "finished " Jamal(?) (cannot remember names) at the end of Act 2 due to a lucky bug. I just got melted in 5 seconds on my first 5 tries, and didn't feel like wasting hours just to learn his attack patterns and maybe finally kill him. So I ended up trying it in a party like 3 times at least, and it was a snorefest AND a fucking sore on the eyes. I didn't even know WTF was going on because of all the fucking effects, so I just pressed some buttons, died, and then alt-tabbed to watch some YT videos while the others were getting raped.
So anyway, I eventually exited to the main menu, and when I logged back into the game later, the boss was dead. No drops, but whatever, fuck it. The drops are shite, anyway.
Eh, I'm pretty much elementalist, mostly cold and it is kind of easy mode so far, at least with trash mobs, where I can just kind of clear from off-screen often. Bosses can take a while, but I have no idea how much easier/harder it is for other classes. I do have to pay attention though, since there are things that can one shot me, sometimes even from just random mobs, at least in act 3.
Also the chaos trial or whatever it's called... the boss I got in the large arena with various terrain elevations ... that shit is just bugged. It's the beast lord again, which you fight earlier with him flying to the towers, but this time he has no towers so he just fucks off somewhere for a while and I just couldn't find him ... had to wait for him. I went to a corner of the map and just sat there afk for over 5 min lol. He doesn't even come after you or anything, it's just fucked. If you stand around the center he'll eventually cycle back and fight you for a bit, before he flies off again. It's a really tedious and slow fight, for no good reason.
But yeah, they really need to shrink the maps, or at least give you a speed potion or something again, cause it is annoying, especially for a moron like me that can't stand not revealing the whole map.
The loot is better now I feel. Not amazing, but better. Not sure if it's just chapter 3, or if it's cause of patches.
Corruption currency seems broken for me though. I've only tried it 5 times, but every single one changed nothing but made my items corrupt. Just stupid...

I feel both PoE and PoE2 have a bit of old Diablo skewing in them. if you use a bow felt like all you found was bolts, if you used a crossbow all you found were arrows.lol
After enough characters on PoE1 and 4-5 friends playing PoE2, it feels like a 40/60 split of loot where 60% of it is for other classes than yours to encourage the trading...or something.
1/2 my gear came from my friend playing a sorcerer, he seems to find +minion stuff just falling out of mobs asses..haha
Game has become unplayable for me, terrible latency spiking up to 4000 ms from 20ms. I guess everyone is off work and GGG blew through their server budget
Me and friend have been playing all night and OK,3/4 of us are in the US. Different places all over the US thought. We got Florida, Ohio, Oklahoma, California, and New York between all of us.

This is what I’ve been aiming for so this is good info on how to further tune what I have done. I also have armor break going prior to doing perfect strike.

There a number associated with each hit unless it’s broken on first hit. Keep hitting until the number disappears and then the armor is fully broken which is what you want. It lasts for 12 seconds per update from latest patch.
I can’t recall off hand what bonus damage it provides as its base but I think it’s a fair amount. There are several passives that can boost that too.

you'll see them kind of flash and there's a sound effect when the armor breaks. i haven't worried about it at all since i started a monk
