Only mod I used was the one that let you save whenever so I didn’t have to brew savior schnapps lol. Devs are definitely on the special side of the spectrum, I guess they had a very particular vision for their game
The first game still looks soooo good imo. I just love how it depicts nature, towns looks gritty and lived in.. gonna give it a go again, just installed a bunch of mods.
Yeah, the first game in 4k with everything maxed looks amazing. Been playing it in anticipation of this, and fucking hell, what a difference from the TLA infested shit of today. A rare game I'm actually looking forward to these days.
Part one was unplayable at release with game stopping quest bugs and horrible performance.
And the gameplay was not good. Some poeple seem to like it, but it was slow, generic with tedious boring quests and cluncky combat...in 2018! People are even more less tollerant to yank these days.
As a medieval world simulator: we allready have part one. This game doesn't impress in 2025.
I'm playing it now and the gameplay is fine. Clunky? Sure, especially at the start, but it gets much better as you level up. Generic? I don't know that there's anything particularly generic about it. The quests make sense for what it is. I get it ain't for everyone, but I love the game, and yeah... I don't think there's any other experience like this out there.
If you're expecting Dark Souls combat, or some other action RPG bs, then sure, this is not for you and you will be frustrated and hate it.
WaB reviewing RPG's is my least favorite, i like him overall, but when he's playing RPG's it's exactly like seeing 7-10 year olds playing a RPG for the first time, they'll just go berserk and kill everyone. Just annoying to watch. He certainly is a very childish man, which is both good and bad
I like that's he's honest here though, about cutscenes etc, i hate that too, especially if they come up during fights(!) and whatever, that's garbage. Not a biggie i guess.
I also hate that it seems to have this super long introduction, just like the first game, that makes you never want to replay it because its so tedious to go through again.

He is spot on.
Non intuitive questing: check, just like the first game. Hated that.
Also the grind to actually kill stuff is back. Hated that in the first game. It's supposed to be a "get gut or get killed" type of game but it's all just leveling up while grinding trainers. The first hours were horrible in the original where every group of enemies kicked your ass and makes you feel like a noob.
Grinding trainers is beyond boring and archery was the worst, seems nothing has changed.
But once you have gotten past that frustrating part the game becomes way to easy. There is no balance.
Seems they haven't learned with part 2.
I don't know man. I feel like it plays fine if you actually play the game like a normal character and don't just grind trainers. I can take 2 guys fairly easy, 3 is a bit of a challenge and at 4 I need to play it really well and have some luck. And obviously it depends on the caliber of enemy as well. It has felt like a natural progression, where early on even 1 enemy would be lethal. But hey, I've only gone to a trainer once, and it was the mandatory story training. That is it. Take it as a difficulty setting if you want. I haven't jumped in place to spam level up, or done any of the gamey shit to level up things. I just played the game like an authentic experience, and so far, 27 hours or so in, it's felt fine.
Now, the second game can't have the same start. It just doesn't work since Henry isn't a nobody peasant anymore. I'm not sure how much of a reset it is, because I don't actually want to see anything about the beginning of the game or whatever, but the same start wouldn't work. He needs to be competent. As to how they can tackle that, if at all .... I don't know..
It's not amnesia, and according to WaB it's just overall strange, he's now a person who in his position should know weapons, but he's a total newbie. Same with black smithing, he doesn't know anything lol. Edit: also, i watched a LOT of previews now, no one mentions this, only WaB. Do you still think it's strange that i like the dude?
there's always been strange decisions in KCD and i guess these odd choices do follow in KCD2 as well unfortunately. This isn't enough to not make me want to play or anything, just a bit annoying. "we're going for realism". no you're not you're going for realism when you feel like it and other times it's thrown out completely "it doesn't matter, it's a game.". It could need some more.. consistency
Again, they still went with the long animation for picking up herbs, even though it's probably the most downloaded mod. If you ask why it's still there people in the comments will say its done like that because it's an engine limitation, the devs can't change it. yet a mod can change it? no, its not an "engine limitation" lol..
The idea that you always have to start a RPG by killing rats, is kind of ridiculous, at least in a follow-up. Progression could instead be harder and harder human enemies. Nothing odd about that.
If they had done it properly you should've been able to import your save imo. But, yes, it has the advantage that new players will feel more at home, like it's the standard affair.
