Yeah the cosmetics are honestly more annoying than they sound. You either have people like me running around in rags and pots and pans for helmets or you have characters with angel wings, glowing auras around them and a menagerie of pets following them around. You can still get cool looking gear the old fashioned way but it's few and far between. The microtransactions a lot of times just don't really fit the visual theme of the game and some are just so over the top that it's cringey.
I bought the stash microtransactions and had some leftover so bought some random cosmetic stuff. You can also do some challenges and grind for cosmetics if you wish.
Is what it is, still a great game. Sounds like a lot of the microtransactions carry over to the sequel which was surprising.

This time around they put more effort into how the standard gear looks.
The more annoying part about the cosmetics for me is the flashiness.
Never really been exited for an diablo-like ARPG before, but this looks phenomenal.
what are some stuff you pay for in these games btw, because i refuse to believe they're not making profit of it in some way..
Stash tabs and cosmetics.
They did a good job with this.
Basically buying stash is mandatory. This is a game with a free demo (no stash), pay for stash (normal base price of a game) and then cosmetics for the idiots that want that so they can pay the bills over the years.
of course you can play without any stash tabs, but you will feel handicaped. At least what you must have is currency tab - there are so many currency types that it's not convenient having em in just regular tabs. And the other stash tabs like fragments (scarabs ant etc.) is also very much needed. There are some other stash tabs which are semi needed - it depends if you are into crafting items or not. And there are some tabs which you don't need - like Uniques stash tab. It's somewhat for collecting them, but i don't usually use that tab.
I have bought all stash tabs but the reasoning mainly was to support a developer which delivers the best game and they keep expanding every 3-4 months leagues cycle. I'm not forced to buy those stash tabs or cosmetics, but i feel entitled to do it eventually and i don't regret spending hundreds of $ over the years because i know that GGG will do their best to keep me interested into content they are bringing. Hence i have 7.3k hours spent playing PoE

From what I hear, it's mostly cosmetics (pathetic...) and stash tabs (could be worked around, I guess).
Would have bought into EA if it was USD 15 or maybe 20. But 30, nah. That's beyond my psychological boundary. I understand you get 3000(?) in-game creds for your money, but I cba about buying in-game stuff at all. I most probably won't make it to the endgame, either, just play the campaign a few times, and farewell.
Started PoE 1 for the umpteenth time, but the campaign is just so fucking boring, I know already that I'm gonna give up on it yet again.
You get 4 free stash tabs but those can't be made public so other people can't see what you have for sale - the economy overall is a huge part of the endgame, it can be hard to acquire some stuff you'll want since for a lot of things target farming isn't really a thing so you just buy them from other players. Some people do play solo self-found but they are all deranged masochists.
If you're only interested in the campaign though, you can easily get away with not paying a single cent - in PoE 2's case you'll just have to wait another ~year before the full public release. It's true that PoE1 campaign is a slog these days for a new player who doesn't know all the tricks, but that's precisely one of the things they're improving in PoE2.
The 300 points you get from the lowest early access tier is more than enough to get the best stash tabs (other than the regular premium tabs that you can put anything into, there's also specialized ones for currency, maps and such) - just be sure to wait until a stash tab sale is happening; they happen every 3 weeks like clockwork and outside of that you're just wasting points.
Covering their asses early I see for the inevitable dumpster fire that will be launch. Maybe Big Daddy Tencent will front them some extra money to put up additional login servers. After all, HOW COULD THEY HAVE SEEN THIS COMING?!
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Bad launch-entirely predictable. Doesn't really matter, this game will be played for years and the early access is what 6 months long.
People taking days off their job to play on launch STILL, after how many of these we've seen, are morons, full stop.
What im curious about is how the game feels, because while i guessed click-to-move was going to not be optimal way to play this game, im seeing people say it's busted and you need a controller or use wasd to play. Also looks like tons of dodge roll spam which is just annoying imo.
I wouldn't say I liked clicking to move before, so WASD is welcome. I can move while pointing where I want to shoot, kite/backpedal, or strafe and cast. Mouse movement feels the same to me as any other ARPG; I just always dealt with it because it was 'the way'.
You get all the tabs to start with. 16 tabs, 4 are quad tabs 5 are special tabs for essence, currency, flasks etc.
Not sure if I like the new gem system and limits. Unsure if it is: Change, and I don't like change' thing, if it's having to relearn how to combine them as it is more complex/less flexible than before, or just less good.
Only metric I can use to compare is fresh in PoE1 and didn't know shit (and I don't like looking at builds/tips figuring a game out blind is 90% of my fun) Vs now and don't know shit.
All I can say is by level 20 where I am now, I was having a lot more fun mixing and matching gems in PoE for "What will this do?!" than I am now.
the limits felt endless, even if you figured out it that the new combo you wanted to try was mostly useless.. In PoE2 it feels very...limiting. Or less 'buffet' styler..not sure of the right words.
GETTING gems early levels is WAY harder, so far I cannot buy them, or find a vendor to trade for them or anything. I have to let RNG gods drop them, and hope its an uncut one of the level I need. Im being frugal spending them to try spells, because I don't know when I will get another high enough level to level up the ones I did found I like.
This is the studios' biggest launch. Besides the fact that there are alot of tourists like me this time around who might only play the campaign and go one and done.
Why prepare a game for an onslaught of 500k players (maybe even more-> epic+non steam launcher+xbox store +consoles) if the number is gonna drop off to half of that in a matter of 2-3 days.
I imagine that that isnt cost efficient in any shape or form.
I didnt expect for the launch to go smooth and didnt even preload exactly for that reason. Downloaded it 3 hours ago and played for 3 hours now and gonna continue later if possible.
im not impressed sofar. and the fact the starting of the game is a copy of poe1 infuriates me, its lame low effort and i hate it with a passion after poe1
as is this game will fail as new players will uninstall after 30 mins and never go back to this sweaty try hard garbage , there is a reason there is difficulty settings in arpgs, so fuck right off with ur dodging balony , i game to chill on my tv to play loot casino . not to be a sweaty nerd . not to mention a new player wlill never get any dopamine from this game as the loot is to bloated with trash, he might find something really good and never evn know. thats just retarded
also the minimum specs are bullshit. unoptimized junk
Game is really good. Plays a lot more like the first PoE then the initial previews made it seem, and that is a massive bonus to me as the screen clear simulator hasn't gone away. I'm kind of unimpressed with the new gem system, honestly feels more limiting and generally shit, when compared to the one in PoE, but that might just be the low level.
It's just PoE with a roll, and if you didn't like that one, then you ain't going to like this. Runs at 120+ fps at 4k and that's with me limiting the fps for better temps. There's dips, but it is generally well optimized I feel. I don't really find it difficult thought, people are really exaggerating it/aren't used to the roll and using it. As long as you dodge the required attacks from bosses, it isn't any more difficult then the first. Then again I'm still early in the game, only played 6-7 hours tops.
Another game that melts your CPU, can get up to 90C, same as space marine 2 at launch.
This is a hardware issue. Clean your case. Also consider repasting the CPU.
I second this,
It is impossible for any game to make your CPU work harder than its physical design is made to.
Well besides low-level/bios accessing stuff like AMD/Intel tweaker software, no game has BIOS CPU settings access. And even then it's not that it's making it overheat, its that you set the settings too aggressively for your cooling capacity; with enough cooling, you would crash/lockup from instability first and never overheat.
Your CPU temp is only related to the wattage the CPU is physically making compared to the wattage your cooling can dissipate.
Now software CAN expose bad cooling, flawed/bad binned CPU's, or such. But it's not causing it, it's just revealing it.
Unless somehow the software inside a computer is controlling the physics of silicon heat creation and dissipation outside of it. It's like saying your infotainment center in your car is making your engine knock, smoke, and overheat.
Run OCCT or Prime and see if it overheats. If it does (Which it should if games are making it) you need either better cooling, cleaned cooling, paste isn't good enough, or worst case a bad CPU/bad luck on the heat spreader on the CPU.
I'm kind of unimpressed with the new gem system, honestly feels more limiting and generally shit, when compared to the one in PoE, but that might just be the low level.
Same, maybe like I said above its: Its different I don't want different.
And it's just learning the new way, I don't like.
But I DID want to try a different support for my skills. And spent an hour and a half farming to get a single uncut support. Bad RNG I admit for its drop. But man was it frustrating going: I just want to try poison support...why can I not just buy it like before??
If there is a way to craft/revert/buy a gem I cannot find it.
AND not being able to use the same support twice anywhere, flat sucks. I wont ever agree I like that decision
So far very mixed feelings. Bosses are fun and everybody on the chat says the same but... the core gameplay is kinda weird. They wanted it to be more tactical than horde clearing but it doesn't click for me. Especially that so far the skills are meh. I play a ranger and mostly use regular attack and lightning arrow. Sometimes with the rod but to use it efficiently the mobs would have to stay still. So I stay still they surround me and then I use rod and lightning. Otherwise I mostly kite and use regular attack. Feels meh...
Tried mercenary with the premise of freezing my enemies and shuttering them but due to reloading mechanic that just doesn't work.
Skills have either lower damage than your basic attack or higher damage but slower attack rate so in the end the dps feels the same no matter what I use.
Tried witch with summons but it just felt bad.
