Another humper returns from beyond
EDIT: already at 113K at steamdb. Surely all the gamejourno puff pieces about how successful the game is can't be far...

Some Mods are on Nexus already (optimization and stutter fixes), unsure what they 'really' change but for some people it helped apparently might try one of them as last resort.
The world is really cool, and some mods (if it's moddable? Is UE5?) could easily fix big issues
- Mouse acceleration
- Slow down movement, god damn
- Mags are thrown which is a nice detail, but then it should throw any ammo you didn't use, that'd be a nice 'hardcore' thing
- Cut down on the ammo / guns / food available
- Remove yellow paint from obvious things
That would be an excellent start
Performance hasn't dipped below 130-140FPS maxed at 1440p, 13700k / 4080 / 64GB RAM. In an hour I am going to try it on a 7800X3D / 4080S / 64GB RAM. It would be funny if RAM made a huge difference in this game. I don't want to jinx it, but I don't really feel the stutter either. Unlike in Silent Hill 2 where I couldn't shake it throughout the entire playthrough. But it's still early.
At least loading a save doesn't take 14 years like with the first game / Anomaly

No mouse acceleration here. Feels amazingly smooth.
Call it what you like, it feels like acceleration, and it feels like shit whatever it is. I have sensitivity turned to 100 and I still have to drag the mouse ~2 times to face where I want to.
Suddenly 60fps on 2k res with DLSS, frame gen on performance with High Settings, still going to tweak a bit to see it some things can be improved further, but those modded UE optimizations could be key.
On my home PC, the mouse sensitivity is 12% and reacts normally. On my work one it's 100% and feels slow and shit.
The audio on home PC also crackles through bluetooth headphones
Performance is identical between both PCs
One other thing I noticed - it seems with non-English voices, the lips are still synced to English words

Its a setting to remove "yellow paint from obvious things" in the menu.
Interesting, as I already had this set to off. That option is called 'object highlighting', I assumed things would glow, not that it was related to the paint. It's still visible in the game world, unfortunately!
From what I've seen online it's "wait", "not quite finished", "needs more work" etc. etc.
So yeah, it's extremely reminiscent of the release of Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl which took 1-2 years to sort out the worst bugs, balance issues and technical problems.
Encountered my first extremely annoying bug.
Got a padlock icon on the screen and cant see any other UI elements. Can press M and then ESC and it goes away temporary.. quit game and relaunch doesnt work. Fantastic
What's the static noise around the screen, it's horrible, i guess it's meant to show you're radiated, makes no sense. Whoever made the decision that it's probably something we need to see really makes the game annoying and ugly to look at.
also the "I AM HIDING HERE!"
...uh, why would you scream out where you are hiding?
that and the shader compilation which seems to take longer and longer for each time (10 mins last time) sucks. otherwise i love it, but i'm sure i could find plenty more to complain about
Man, the game spawns enemies like 20 meters behind you with no regard for anything. There's no such thing as having "cleared" an area. Even after the game gave me an achievement for clearing an area without raising alert, it just kept spawning enemies in the area endlessly.

Doesn't look like A-life 2.0 is in, so they did a "Todd" (Oblivion's Radiant AI).
hopefully its actually in, just not used since too demanding and tanks FPS, so maybe modders can bring it back.
Someone reported like 2 days ago that they had removed it from features (on the stalker page).
However i also saw a "ask the devs" stream and this dev said it was still in. he had no good explanation of why it was gone from the page though, just that they had rewritten some parts on the page, i call BS, it was likely removed because its a removed feature, or "on hold". He didn't want to say it that close to release.
This is the point I refunded. I don't even know why they started shooting, why they stopped, or why they are so dumb. This is the hardest difficulty and 3 military guys shot me in the back with automatic weapons, but you can just walk away.
Overall, the game is missing something, some part of its soul that even Metro games have managed to capture.
Firstly, exploration is boring. There's nothing hidden in any clever places anymore. Don't bother looking up chimneys or in areas cleverly wedged away, not once did I find something that way. See that big helicopter, though? Guns and ammo. The house over there? Backpack in the middle of the floor. But why explore? If you do, you'll have way too many resources. You need to eat, which isn't a problem. You need ammo or grenades, which isn't a problem. You need to heal, which isn't a problem. When do my problems start? An abundance of resources nullifies the point of The Zone and any survival mechanics.
Secondly, there's no combat risk. I found myself approaching a bandit base 30 minutes ago, but I had two 100% MP5s and almost 200 rounds of ammo just for those (and more for other guns). The first quest I did outside of the tutorial rewarded me with a brand new scoped assault rifle that obliterates oblivious AI from a distance. Nothing's special when it comes to weapons or their upgrades. You get a silencer for the pistol, and it's like... nothing. In Metro, such upgrades are special and have an impact on what you do. Here, it's pointless as the stealth mechanics are shit.
Metro Exodus's first open world area is much better than anything I experienced here. That feels like the natural progression of what STALKER sequels should have been.
The highlight of my day might have been seeing a dog getting hit by lightning, but there's no A-Life (spawns are random), the characters are all so far generic, and I don't care about any of it.
And to state the obvious - there are so many bugs. Visual, audio, AI. You name it. If you use non-English audio, there are instances where you can't open inventory, view notes etc with audio playing as the subtitles disappear if you do.
It needs a lot more work and some QOL mods. I'm sure it'll be worth playing when the gameplay matches the environment you find yourself in.
Too much hype for this game, it's really primitive, just like the people who made it. They took an old formula, added some new effects (RTX), and combined graphics reminiscent of Medal of Honor from 20 years ago and the Metro series. The menu and game mechanics feel like they're from 2007.
the optimization is kind of crappy, though it runs fine for me at 1440p with everything set to epic. With just DLSS (no frame generation), I get around 120 FPS.
the weapon immersion is strange it feels like there’s some sort of lag, which is odd

i don't see any hype anywhere, actually i didn't even realized this got released. the only hint for me was this thread which was popping up a lot lately but outside of here, nothing.
