Reckon you want some dimmies and a cuppah eh, love?
Had the show sitting in my gargantuan backlog for a while and this thread reminded me to finally snag it, great stuff indeed mates. It just strikes the perfect balance between drama and lightheartedness by keeping a grounded tone and by never going too over the top (while still delivering some bizarrely violent situations ), which is what Barry tried to do but eventually failed to achieve.
There's a lot of genuine humanity in it too, a pleasant change from most modern big-budget productions and their vapidness. Everyone is solid, but Scott Ryan *is* the show - not only did he write it but without his ambiguous-yet-stoic character and the memorable grin none of the interactions would have properly worked. He's a resilient tough cunt, but a really lovable one
I could have easily watched at least a couple more seasons of this, however, the ending is fitting and definitely captures the spirit of the show.
I've been watching this for the last month or so (it's on Disney+), on season 3 right now.
This show has really impressed me, it's very high quality in nearly all aspects: writing, characters, dialogues and acting (even the daughter, especially in her teenager phase is so well written and acted). Also, almost the perfect combination of drama, action, a bit of suspense and the subtle touch of comedy, all done in a very unassuming way. It's really hard to find a weak spot.
I'll be so sad to have to say goodbye to it after a few more eps left to watch
Season 1 was great, but im not sold on season 2. Feminine energy is through the roof on this one. Weak so far (ep2). Especially when starting the season with some bullshit "misogyny" tripe that was just cringe.
