Let's ignore the fact that you only get about 3.5mil of that from steam if those are even real numbers, so yeah. I guess if it cost you less then a mil it's a success and you could argue in the abstract that the game made several times its "budget". But then again, do you think making a 2.5 mil profit means a lot to them? That's around what they made from GTAV online in a day a few years back.
If they released this 10 years ago or just before RDR2, they would have made a lot more. Even being conservative I would imagine they would have sold 10-20 times more copies at least. They just held on to it for too long.

by this logic they wouldnt do anything ever again... they didnt do it in house since other company ported it and not to mention they also did for all consoles so was no brainer to port to pc too, so in the end probably was very cheap. but also in the long run it will sell much more
My point is, they could have made much more by porting it earlier, so it is nothing but a failure since they waited until nobody gave a shit anymore.
Red dead 2 has been out for 5 years on steam and it still has 10 times the active players that this "new" release has. So yeah, nobody cares and I doubt it will sell much more. Maybe on a massive discount, but even then, most people that wanted to play it have done so, be it on the consoles, or emulated, or streamed... it's just too late.
porting it earlier so people would double buy u mean...else its been 14 years and people who wanted to play this played it already including pc players bought consoles for it just like rdr2 and everything else so rockstar already have their money. wat remained are the young people who never played it before and some people who did played it but would play again /steam deck and the little who waited, the grifters would still never play it cuz rockstar did them dirty...could have been released 10 years ago they still wouldnt play it
rdr 2 is just a different beast, more recent newer tech and has online. rdr1 is from 2010...since gta 4 days..
people forget that 14 years ago pc market wasnt like today...everyone was on console...
I liked RDR a whole lot more than RDR2. In fact i've never gotten far into RDR2, while i have completed RDR (rare for me to complete games). I can't say which game is the better, but RDR had many cool missions and characters.
Graphics are super well done, has aged tremendously well because there's a lot of talent involved here that goes way beyond texture resolution or shaders.
It is SUCH a shame they didn't port this some 10+ years ago though.
one of the challenges in fort mercer is "kidnap their women! hogtie 10 prostitutes" and I just thought how well that would pan out today with modern journos
