"they rerelasing the game on other platforms on a later date so people double dip"
How about you dont double dip?
wtf is wrong with you.
if i had thanos's glove, i'd snap this dumbass term out of existence. They're releasing a game on a new platform, that never had it, for its unique and distinct audience, completely different from the one on consoles - so they double dip ? The people here have never played the fucking game, they never had access to it. How does something so simple need explaining to that guy ? Double dip doesnt exist (as a large enough phenomenon that it would matter or reliable enough that anyone sane would ever make sale projections based on it) and most people don't have multiple devices, where they buy the same thing over and over. PS and xbox gamers are one demographics. Nintendo another. PC another. You're always selling a game to a unique, new, distinct audience when you're releasing something on each of these platforms. How did this moronic idea of double dipping, the same people just buying the same thing several times ever came to life ... Those are the smallest niches of niches, you lose the bulk of the audience with staggered releases, you lose the marketing machine, the general hype, the zeitgeist. Rockstar operates under its own set of rules that dont make much sense from any point of view. But the games they release are such anomalies that they dont need to function like everyone else. The games dont behave like any other normal games do. So it always works for them, regardless what they do
And to think that the main framework, several environments and some of the models were already available for a potential remake, all they had to do was port/implement the rest while bringing the open-world dynamics up to RDR2's superior standards. Still too much work for Rockstar
If one isn't too bothered by the vintage visuals and the static world, I'd say the dialogues along with their genuine reactions and the whacky characters are enough to make the experience worth a Yarr. Although it's on the repetitive side, the gunplay itself works reasonably well too thanks to the good ol' Euphoria (unlike the classic GTA trilogy which feels obsolete in that regard).
I have hold off with RDR2 because I wanted to wait for RDR to be properly playable on PC. It seems like an incredibly lazy port, but probably works better than the consolitis versions, so I'll take that. Graphics show their age but it's still good enough for me to yarr
I still think it's better to play RDR1, then RDR2. RDR2 is just so damn good that it might make RDR1 a lesser experience if you played the sequel first.
There are hardly any games that match the quality of RDR2. You'll look (with desperation) for something similar, but you won't find anything like this...
Playing this after RDR 2 is just impossible for me. I couldn't stand John Marston in RDR2, so knowing I have to play him just kills any desire I might have had for the game before playing the 2nd.

You should definitely play RDR1, it fleshes out his character a ton more.

Playing RDR2 now where John is young and immature (but appears to be good-hearted), I understand that the first game is set around 12-14 years later, so I guess that by then he already had time to develop some better character and sense?

As far as I know, only 4 years pass between the end of RDR2 and the start of RDR.
