I wouldn't say " a disgrace", it was just pretentiously lame (except for Mr. Phoenix's performance).

I knew I wasn't going to watch this, and I guess I was right. First one was really good though.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I actually really liked the movie, with maybe 2 fewer songs it would have been better because they broke the pacing a bit.

I definitely didn't see the sequel shitting on the first movie or the audience of the first movie. If anything, I don't know what people expected from a sequel to the first Joker, where he/Arthur Fleck is just a pathetic man down on his luck, failed by the system and those close to him. He's not a menacing or an imposing figure.

This is not a Joker in a Batman universe, this is a Joker from the first Joker.

That's exactly the (only?) thing that the first movie did well (reinforced by Phoenix's fantastic performance), up until the point they tried to make it look much more transcendent than it really was, and in arguably the clumsiest (or laziest) way possible.

It was actually this last aspect, the poor execution and not so much the idea, what finally ruined it for me.

Who knows? Maybe this sequel is a dumber movie that doesn't pretend to be smarter, so I might end up liking it better. But after hearing/reading so many complaints, especially about its 'awful ending', I guess not Laughing

Yikes lol.

https://www.ladbible.com/entertainment/film/joker-2-reviews-walk-outs-musical-178388-20241007

Quote:
Viewers aren't realising something about the movie till they're already in the cinema.
The sequel has not seen pure unanimous hatred with some enjoying, including one viewer who tweeted:

“I thought Joker 2 was terrific, but quite a percentage of the audience tonight didn’t. Every time there was another song, more people walked out.
“Not sure how they somehow missed the news that this was a musical.”[

“I been knew Joker 2 would be a musical. But they are petty for not promoting it as such. They knew that audience would be pissed & now they’re walking out of theatres. Lmao”.

“Never thought I would walk out Joker Folie A Deux – snoozefest”.

“I think Phoenix and Gaga were brilliant. Loved the support role by Gleeson. Unfortunately I didn't know it was a musical. I hate musicals with a passion”.

“I did know there were a few songs because of Gaga, but didn’t know it’s a full blown musical with 30 ! songs. The movie is slow, nothing happens other than a fire, and the stuff in the courtroom is a snoozefest”.

“When she visited him in prison and started singing I walked out. F*ck that sh*t.”

“Last night was the first time in my life I’ve seen people get up in the middle of a movie and walk out. Joker 2 is horrible, save your money…”

“40 minutes into Joker 2 and I want to walk out. What a colossal failure”.

“I have to leave. I can’t finish this movie, it sucks.”

There aren't 30 songs that are sung in the movie. There are maybe 10-12 with some repeats. And not all are full length either.
