Racial tension between the groups. so if true this is the reason then it's pretty despicable of UBI (you can be a black person slaughtering asians in the most brutal way possible, but not the other way around).

You're right, but the same could be said of EVERY major publisher today - EA, Ubisoft, Sony, Capcom, Square Enix, hell even Rockstar, all could do with a rude awakening.
The industry has grown fat and corpulent on the teets of DLC, Season Passes, micro-transactions, politically induced grants, and just overall minimal effort for maximal returns. It's long over due for a massive crash. These "game directors" and CEO's need to get kicked out on their asses with the door slammed in their face.

So instead of saying "Fuck, sorry guys. We're removing this black sob and replacing him with a japanese male samurai" they're just trying to appease with giving away some free stuffs and delaying it for as long as they imagine the human mind will remember a controversy, or at least the feelings around it. Probably true, people are dumb as bricks.
Best thing that could happen in gaming is for a bunch of these studios to go under. In fact, fuck it. Burn the whole AAA industry to the ground for all I care, 99% of it is dogshit anyway.
But if Ghost of Yōtei releases in Q1 2025 they're fucked.
First game was based on authenticity, now it's hit with the DEI stick. It's up to them if they can keep the authenticity despite the obvious silliness with having a generic looking female protagonist in a samurai era no less, but only time will tell
