I still can't get over that someone has released what feels like a quality full Gothic game in 2021.

It feels like I've accidentally reached into some alternate universe where PB made a full blown spin off to Gothic 2.

40 hours in and feels like there is still a ton of content left. This mod is huge, and of supreme quality.

The beauty of this mod is that there's content throughout all chapters. You get sidequests (more advanced ones obviously) and random encounters up until the very end.

And you know how the mod description says you're not the "Hero" or "Chosen One"?

Ending spoilers:

Oh and BTW there's great choices and consequences. A seemingly minor choice in chapter 2 cost one major npc in the last chapter her/his life Smile

It is really like the best mod for any game ever if we discount dota / cs.

Absolutely. It's so good it honestly spoiled the originals for me (not just because I played them dozens of times Smile ). So much to do, so much to explore. You really want to go everywhere, because the map is fantastic and the game will reward you for it.

I honestly hope History of Khorinis will be half as good, if it ever comes out.

Well, there have been some great Skyrim mods too.

By the way, I just started the mod. In the beginning, in the ship, I got that magic scroll of Lockpicking but when I use it on the locked chest, the scroll is used but still can't open the chest. Is that a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Stand directly infront of the chest and hold down lmb. The casting animation has to completely fully, it isn't an instant cast.

You're doing something wrong. You need to keep casting the spell until the lock opens.

Yes, first times I waited about 2-3 secs while it was casting but the spell charged for a bit longer. I opened it finally. Very Happy

How's the difficulty? Is it more like G2 or G2 w/ NOTR? Still same leveling/LP/trainer system in place?

It’s pretty close to G2 NOTR. Maybe slightly harder.

I'm on holidays, but have lots of work to do. Now this shit comes along and I can't stop playing.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I'd say easier than NOTR overall myself. It's super easy to get stat boosts in this mod if you explore. You get perm bonuses from books, potions, food and quest rewards.

It also helps that it uses the more logical system that LP costs aren't affected by bonuses just the base amount. So you don't have to save all your strength boosts till after you've got your strength value to the desired amount like in NOTR. I much prefer this as you can just use str potions etc when you find them rather than saving them up.

At level 45 in Chapter 5 I've got 80 base strength and with all the potions (steroids) I've been drinking and other bonuses my boosted strength is 235. I've also maxed out my 1h skill.

In NOTR you had to be very precise with your LPs if you wanted to get strength high enough to equip the Dragonslayer or berserker axe.

^ That's a huge change in a positive direction imo. I wonder how many people horded potions anyway not knowing the new system.

This is nice.. never knew it existed. Tons of various fixes for the game, works with CoM too.

https://worldofplayers.ru/threads/40376/
https://sefaris.eu/union/plugins

just install the exe then download whatever plugins you want and it turns it to a package that you install into /data..

animation fixes, controller support, better inventory etc

hmm i wonder if there's an AI audio tool to translate one audio file to another language. i'm thinking there has to be Very Happy would be nice translating all those russian and polish mods..

Great game though

yeah, seems great. played a bit now.

I see they're doing on a 2.0 version, which will be its biggest update, with new quests etc too.

I asked them if they could think about changing the 2039 date on their texture .mod file to support us modders (their file will have priority over our files, when this date is set, if set lower it would really help). So it'll be cumbersome doing a replacer for the textures added exclusively to CoM. No. They're really uninterested in supporting any other modders, and i was just asked to fuck off basically.

I've followed some Steam discussions as well, these people are really obnoxious. One talked about what a shit game Gothic 2 is Rolling Eyes It seems like everything they say must be something that comes of as provocative (to gothic fans) or just super counterproductive.

US modders are overall the best ones i've dealt with, always welcoming and supportive, doesn't steal shit, asks first, are very polite. Russians, Polish, pffft, that's completely out of the door, if they're even capable of english Laughing

Ah well maybe i'll play it again sooner than i thought. I just disliked the quests that would make you pass time manually by going back to THE SAME SPOT after 8 hours.. i.e. "Artyom, meet me back here in the morning and we'll figure this out!" Like bruh... i have to run back 10 minutes to a bed and rest and then run back here 10 minutes to continue.

The main annoyance is they nerfed the shit out of the teleporter stones, which actually makes sense in the first chunk of the game, but not in the 2nd half.

Of course it does... i still quite like how it looks though, even the rather blocky characters has their charm Very Happy

Morrowind came out the same year, another game people still are modding. Kind of peculiar. My two favorite games to mod..

The water shader for G3D11 is really cool. When it rains you can see water running down the stems of trees and on the ground + very noticeable on NPC's too.. i've not seen it for, what i can recall, any other game.

Union has really made this game a lot better, i really recommend the plugin ZhumanRemaster, it remasters the animations, running, fighting, jumping - looks way better.

Nice thanks, after replaying through the first one with the D3D11 renderer + mods I was planning to do another Gothic 2 run *soonish*. All those crispy textures will come in handy Very Happy

Archolos too but at this point, I'll just wait for the mythological 'when it's ready' 2.0 update.

same here, i was going to start playing it, but then i heard about 2.0 so it's on hold.

By just modding it can tell a TON of work went into it. The game world itself is way more detailed and bigger. it has like 10x the NPC's of G2 too. No idea why it has so many corpses though but i'll guess i'll find out heh

It's one of the many plugins you can select when you install Union via the Resource Manager. no idea if there's a version outside of it.

The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos, amazing. 2024 and out of fucking nowhere I got Gothic 2,5 with a bunch of amazing QOL improvements.

In the endless shit of mediocrity, I discover this...

Absolute recommendations, just be careful if you have a life of any kind, cause this is long and so much fun(at least if you are a Gothic fan, not sure about these "modern audiences").
