finished, was ok, expected maybe a little more from this setting, def had the ingredients to make it even more creepy, but it felt a bit repetitive, the environment, even though it changes the more u progress is not enough to feel new, in other walking sims there are new areas

I finished this, cool design and visuals but it is mostly a walking sim with some hide & seek sections and a very wtf ending (not in a good way).
It is more of a horror themed journey in an oil rig setting with characters you couldn't give less of a crap about because the game barely introduced them for 5 seconds.

2024 can't even make a linear walking sim work properly

Quote:

We've seen a very rare bug that makes it’s possible to block your progress and become unable to finish the game. We want to make sure you know what's happening and maybe avoid it for yourself!

If you leave Mud Handling in Engineering without fixing the fusebox, you may end up in a state where you cannot trigger the protective relay, and also cannot return to Mud Handling to fix the fusebox. Restarting from checkpoint may not fix the issue, and you may need to restart the game from the beginning.

We are working on a fix that should be available as quickly as possible to both stop this blocker and give you a "Restart Scene" option to return to before it happened. Unfortunately before the patch, the only options to fix this are to restart the game or wait for the patch to be published.

The dirty mouth on these characters, man... I mean... I understand using the 'F!' word once in a while, but these NPCs are the most foul-mouthed I've ever encountered in a videogame!

And I do (fondly) remember Edwin Odesseiron!

Hard to care or create any sort of attachment... And the script doesn't help either.

I am close to the end but... I did not feel this game. Not like I did with Soma, Amnesia or even Penumbra games.
___

The environments are beautifully crafted, but the lack of interactivity makes everything stale, unappealing... zero involvement! Another game with a fantastic world that you can't interact with... Rolling Eyes

@blackeyedboy tbh I thought the language was what would be expected on an oil rig. You sound like an office worker.

Sounds like someone's never been to Scotland. And it makes even more sense given the setting - in the 70's oil rigs would have been 100% staffed by men, no worries about upsetting the fairer sex with a foul mouth.

That's a terrible bug, in the context of the area it occurs. I'm right at that point of the game and it is very easy to get lost between the two areas as the game kind of stops giving you navigation waypoints (if you use the button that provides hints), and to make matters worse your character is rambling on about fuse boxes while the current objective is to get to the protective relay. Add in that you're going up and down ladders, it's very easy to get turned around in that chapter.

It's not really much of a twist to be fair, and it isn't really what makes Soma good anyway. You should definitely still play it if that is all you know. I unfortunately watched someone else play it, so there's not much point in going through it, as I don't think the gameplay adds enough to warrant a playthrough at this point.

I played soma in pussy (story) mode and still enjoyed it a lot.

Man this game was as mediocre as it gets with its gameplay. Much of it feels very artificial. Guy freezes 3 times in the story at very random points, and of course in the same room is a heater. The game has exactly 3 heaters in the game. This tells a bit how artificial it is. The game does precious little new and plays out like multiple other games in the genre.

Now the story i feel was bogged down by its characters. Less is more in games like these and total isolation creates a better atmosphere.

However i did enjoy the characters and the portrayal of the social dynamics in places like these. Fishing boats are much the same. Potty mouths whereever you see, and i love it.

As Yahtzee says in the video just above your comment, it feels like they had a survival (body temp) mechanic planned that they never managed to implement. I thought he same about the number of first aid kits scattered around, was that another survival mechanic (health) but they ran out of time or money to bring in to the gameplay. Of course I'd also expect a dangerous work environment like an oil rig to have first aid kits all over the place, so who knows. At least we got to use the heaters!

I finished this one yesterday and it was a pretty damn good time! Never known a game with so many C-bombs but the characters and acting were great! I think it would be a phenomenal VR experience. The level design of the oil rig is really impressive.

This DLC is 2 hours and described as ‘bite-size’.
It’s also not standalone and requires the base game to play.

I liked this also. Non existent gameplay pretty much, but the rest of the experience was good. Like watching a decent horror film. The DLC is a nice surprise. 👍
