Yea, ng+ char on this was a bad idea. Gaius mofo is just killing me with two hits. Level 198 60 vigor, heavy armor and physical damage talisman and what not.
Have to respec now for some of the cheese tactics.

Is jump attacking really a thing in this game or not?
I've seen so many videos and read about it that its supposed to be super powerful, doing much more damage. I've never gotten it to work, in fact it does less damage.
i tried it at those sitting beings at Mohgwyn Palace:
Jump attack (using heavy, which is what you should use i've read): 1146 damage
regular heavy attack: 1511 damage
Ashes of war (lion's claw): 1816 damage
using +24 zweihander.
tried asking on reddit r/eldenring but in usual reddit fashion it seems like it was just auto deleted instantly.
maybe it's some button combo i just don't get.

Jump attacks are faster than regular heavy but does less damage, but more damage than light/fast attack. So it kind of makes sense, it's supposed to sit between those + better for evasion.

first patch made it easier
second patch made some nerfs
so not too hard to figure out why one patch is liked and the other, maybe not so much.

Some of the design choices are really bad or annoying.
Why cant you drop those colored stones to predict how you are going to fall. that would have been so helpful (and a cool secondary use for them) with the platforming parts.
Same stones could've been left even if you die or go to a site of grace i think. They can be really useful, but the usage is too limited since they'll easily disappear. Have a limit of 100 or so that can be in the world, so it doesn't bog down the game. would've been cool if you could throw them to predict a jump too. long press for lay down, short press to throw.
Lamp goes off every time you die. This doesn't add anything fun, its just an annoyance to have to remember to turn it on again. It's too game:y of a game to be something totally immersion breaking, the game is pretty much the opposite of an Immersive Sim, nobody would complain.

that is really nitpicky and the first time ever I've seen anyone complain about that
and am I misunderstanding? you can drop those stones to predict if a fall is gonna kill you, if it arrives at the bottom it's fine, if it shatters you're gonna die
it's been a thing since dark souls, or demon's souls even? it never left

nitpicky on the whole perhaps but it would make the game a bit more fun, especially since the platforming / jumping isn't that great, i mean you can tell it wasn't designed to be a platformer exactly.
yes, i never said you can't use the stones like that, i meant, since they're in the game, why not make use of them for predicting jumps (beyond you will survive/you will die). i have seen people complaining about the platforming. if you could use the stones to predict where you will land it could've saved people hours of frustration in the more difficult parts, like getting to Deeproot Depths from Mohg's room, there's a few others too, but not too many i guess that are that hard.
i can probably think of 10'ish other small things that are kind of annoying, while each might be a "nitpick" it does add up when you have a lot of small annoyances.
And yes i understand that the game has its fans (fanboys) who absolutely adores the game and the team so things like this are unlikely to ever get through to them, people are quick to defend the game and its designs, even when not perhaps great (or could be made better). their loss, imo..
And yeah i love the game too, doesn't mean it's perfect or couldn't (easily) be even better with rather tiny tweaks that likely wouldn't take much to implement.

^ Yea, indeed, there's some... 'roughness' in the game. Starting from PC controls, abysmal camera with some bosses, and up to QOL things you described there...
But people just tend to adapt and give them a pass, due to other things they appreciate in the game.
Atmosphere, gameplay, lore, characters, quests... all these captured me and made me... 'ignore' such annoyances. But YES, despite everything good, these annoyances are still there.

Huh?
You are getting old, you... old man.
Games that do it right:
Rune
Gothic 1/2
Enclave
Die By The Sword
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy / Jedi Outcast
Max Payne 1&2
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
The Suffering
+ others
...
U diss-a-point?-me, old man!
_
Consoles absolutely RUINED the third person camera in games. Removing back-pedalling and implementing this... shit, unrealistic, defective way of moving your character backwards...
