I mean, I don't think a 10/10 exists, but obviously you're talking about ign ratings, in which case 8/10 is average so Origins was definitely a 10/10 in that case.
Dragon Age: Origins was a really good game, not the best RPG ever, but Outside of KotOR, probably Bioware's best RPG. Unfortunately, none of the sequels stuck to the formula.
The second game could have been good, it had potential but they ruined the gameplay and copy-pasted the same maps for every encounter, with enemies dropping from the ceiling.
The third game was a fucking MMO-like joke, but I still found some enjoyment by just having fun with the absurd story. Again, it wasn't a good game by any means, and the story was only ironically fun, but at least I could have some fun with it, unlike Andromeda or some other bs they released after.
But really, I don't get why you think you need a 10/10 game to get sequels. The games with the most sequels aren't exactly great games usually. Look at the CoD games, Fifa, Assassin's Creed, etc.

No it's my review, I don't care about game journalists. Origins was a good game but not perfect. Mass Effect 1 is the best game Bioware ever made, outside that nothing they've released for decades has been very good.
I tapped out of Dragon age a couple hours into the sequel, I don't need to play 3 or this one to know it's not for me.

BG2 says hi!
I loved Origins, but the game was rather flawed. The skill systems were allowed for very little variety to any non-mage class. The story was pretty linear and had some questionable moments in it like you, a nobody, influencing the dwarves' politics.
Even so, it was the best in the series, by far (the expansion improved many aspects of it).

That's because the creators of this game are not chosen based on their artistic / professional skill, but based on:
⢠color of the skin - anything but white
⢠gender - anything but true, natural female or male
⢠color of hair - must be green, orange, blue, purple
⢠gender - anything but natural (aka must not be a true 'woman' or true 'man')
⢠must have considered suicide at least a couple of times (yes, read about how the vast majority of LGBTQQQQ+ people are going through this) |

This is the real problem with this game. An average slasher open world RPG can be fun to pass some time.
But this still has those stupid party mechanics cause "it's Dragon Age", and those sucked also in the last game. It you wan't to make an action RPG, stick to the core and focus on 3th person single player action.
And the open world will be your avarage ubi shit collecting feathers and that kind of bullshit.
If they just would stick to the core gameplay of an open world RPG, with all it's quirks, it could be fun. Focus on quality, say 20 hours story and + 30 for completionists. The market isn't that saturated with good AAA open world action RPG's. Say a more casual gothic type of game with a bigger budget. Wouldn't be bothered with all the woke stuff in that case.

I'd argue there was one Carmack for a whole lot of shitheads, but that's just me.
I was just trolling, I'm not refuting that big studios can promote diversity hires to an unhealthy limit, Ubi being one of the worst outliers. But to be honest, looking at the indie games studios providing us with some of the best games lately, there's an awful lot of colored hair and other colorful characters there too.  Doesn't seem like it prevents them from making good games : I'm only point that out because you guys are making it some kind of empirical rule.
I just think it's odd to think that this hobby didn't attract "alternative" types before (studios were full of punks, metalheads, hardcore nerds, etc that people around our current age would ridicule in a manner awfully similar to now), that's all. I'm not invested enough in gamedev studios etc to actually have a good opinion about the subject, but it didn't really strike me as a transition, more of something that was always there to begin with.
