When i watched this (and so many other recent RPGs) it made me realize how much I long for an RPG to go super-super generic, like the old Might and Magic RPG's. It actually would feel so fucking refreshing at this point. Dragon's Dogma 2 is probably the closest we will get to something very traditional Fantasy in a while.
Just installed Daggerfall Unity with a ton of mods
Obsidian's next big RPG Avowed is looking to Vermintide's 'masterclass in having a sense of hitting and impact' to make its first-person sword-swinging feel weighty
Quote:
"Our goal was to try to make it feel visceral, right?" Paramo explains. "To make the sense of hitting [enemies] feel impactful … like Vermintide. We're trying to get our inspiration from there, just that masterclass in having a sense of hitting and impact."
Quote:
"I'm definitely really proud of what the gameplay team has done … even our melee combat is feeling fantastic," says Patel. "I really do feel like it's going to stand head and shoulders above when it comes to fantasy first-person action RPG melee combat."

i was writing in another place that the way they chose to show that first video a few days ago feels as if they don't even know that it looks bad. That the weaponry and sword swinging and hitting feels so flacid and weightless. And holly shit, they literally dont know that it looks bad.
Checked Vermintide on youtube and it looks, sounds and feels exactly like Avowed. They copied them verbatim, they weren't kidding. Why would anyone want to copy such shit looking/sounding/feeling mechanics. Why didn't they copy Chivalry 2 ?
You look at the nuances that Dark Messiah had. How the camera has a slight bob when you move. How the camera moves and tilts when you do various swings to simulate their weight, the specific move you're doing. Plus the reactions for enemies when you hit them. Avowed looks too static, swinging that sword looks like you're just shacking a small knife in front of you. And hitting enemies looks like you're hitting air
Here is an idea nfohump, if you think this gameplay looks shit and not worth your time. Maybe don't buy the game or play it?
So what is your point then? That on a discussion thread for a game people should unconditionally like a game or say nothing?
The animations look really bad. You might not care and still enjoy the game, and that is fine; doesn't however change the fact that it ain't great in that aspect.
Also, I am playing POE2 atm and I can tell you, this Avowed game... is... "thin" as fuck when it comes to writing / dialogue.
CASUL!
Spoiler:
Indeed. But then again, PoE 2 is made for adults whereas this one looks like it's made to satisfy a different type of audience - the one who found that Harry Potter game from last year deeply captivating and likes playing from the couch whilst watching Palworld reaction streamers on the phone

It's clear, lot of users whine and complain about casual games here. Yet continue to buy and support them, if this game isn't what you want to see from obsidian then just don't buy it, it's easy really.
Pillars, I loved POE 1 but just can't get into POE 2 I don't know why. This game is a skip for me, it just looks too similar to TOW which I didn't think was a very good game.
lol what do they mean the world has many wonders? there's nothing. the engwithans checked, found nothing except a wheel, and decided to make their own gods.
should have just set this game in the world of tyranny. now that was a game with a world i wanted to explore

should have used the kickstarter money to build out a unique world that people would want to explore and sell paradox the boring generic medieval fantasy world

Time of games like is long gone I am afraid
But yeah... I would love to get proper sequel to Tyranny.
Proper, grim one.

Hey dont be so hard the little console eunuchs, they need time to aim their lil vibratin thumbstick.
the rabbit girl with the big ears it looks like they've taken inspiration from people who cosplays and with minimal effort; let's put some rabbit ears on and then i put on some make up "look! i'm a new race!"
Engine, reminds me of ELEX but with better LOD's. Laughable for a 2024-2025 game.
