Gearbox typically removes Mr. D after a while and this also appears to be yet another wonky product sold at full price in need of patching (among other things), so waiting is always the recommended option anyway
..that is assuming the game isn't a lost cause, which might also be the case here.
I've played it a bit, but I haven't gotten far. Performance is ok, not as smooth as I hoped it'd be. Combat is fun so far, but I haven't been really challenged by the AI yet.
The only downside so far is the story, specifically the main antagonist. Way to cartoony for me.
Also, the protagonist feels a bit more emotional, almost unhinged. I don't remember Karan S'jet being like that.
From what I'm reading the story and its ending is some next level retarded fanfic grade.

So he might not appreciate some... 'finer' quality details in a videogame.
He's likely not lying about things. Whether he likes it or not is irrelevant, listen to what he experiences. Personally the "jumping out for no reason except story" does sound pretty damn annoying when you feel you've no reason to do so. But maybe there is proper story reasons for it like a countdown or something, but i don't know. I also hate being interrupted when i'm doing my thing.
to be fair it was the same in the previous games too, albeit fewer instances
but the story oh boy
it used to be about the whole Higarans, the past, the future, technology..
now it is about 2 women talking to each other
and the good one has a supporting man, that sometimes argues with her
you get new technology and upgrades randomly - hey 5minutes have passed on this mission, you can now build destroyers!
oh you just killed all enemies and have to repair and gather resources? - too bad! in hyperspace you go, next mission
Sadly, quality writing has become an extremely rare commodity in gaming (and the entertainment industry in general) to the point that I get surprised when something comes out and doesn't reek of quirky Marvelitis mixed with layers of feefee-driven narrative and cringe-inducing Genz-y drivels. It doesn't help that the people responsible for keeping our hobby alive (as alive as a zombie can be) aren't avid gamers and more often than not they care very little about their output or the beloved franchise they're assigned to since there are other priorities in place. Add to that the influx of external factors / activism and the goose is cooked.
