I usually look at avsforums, I'm a TV newbie myself, but there's not a clear consensus. Some say it's the the same thing with new software, others see differences in PQ side by side. My gut says to go for the newer model since the dipshits at LG don't upgrade older TVs to newer WebOS.
Reviving this as we're on the look for new TV. I haven't followed what's new in terms of TVs, we have an old Samsung 102cm with 3D ( haven't used that much ) and not a smart tv.
We will use it for streaming netflix/hbo go and i will also hook my PS5 to it, doesn't have to be large, so i guess 4K is a must? Size doesn't have to be large, somewhere between 102-115(?)cm.
Budget is top 800 eur
Also, not very set on brand as long as it's reliable and has a good panel. Oh, do TVs come with bluetooth? I would like to connect the tv and the soundbar via bluetooth which will get me rid of an extra cable.
Since we are using my pc to stream the above mentioned, using hdmi cable, what media thing should i use that can stream netflix and hbo go, is there a device of some sort or the TV has some built-in apps to use?
Just got the TV, looks amazing after turning off all shit you dont want (panel quality is god like compared to LCD), the screen is so bright on maximum brightness that i cant imagine one would need more nits lol, why people need more?
Bought myself 65" C1 OLED, could not say no for 1500 euros, C2 would be over 1000 euros more.
I thought about waiting some time and getting C2 until I saw prices in Europe. 55" is going for more than 2000€ while C1 55" is less than 1000€ in most local stores. I hope price will drop even more as soon as C2 is available.

Highly doubt they will lower the price, they are very good deal now, I bet they will be sold out soon, better get one now. C2 is like only marginally better, not sure why anyone would pay 1000 euros more for it, you will not need the extra brightness, C1 is bright as fuck on 100%, I have set it on 50-60% brightness.
EDIT: Nice! it seems i got the C1 with the new EVO panel (WBE instead of older WBC), should be way more durable burn in wise and more energy efficient and little more accurate colors, this C1 can be killer deal.
I didn't know it had different panels. Is there a way to check which panel it has before buying?
Already decided to get C1, but now not sure if I should go for 65" instead of planned 55". Everyone on internet says go bigger if you can. 65" looks huge, right now my viewing distance from the couch is ~3 m, while if I game then it's less than 2 m.
How big of an issue is the lack of Dolby Vision support on Samsung TVs? I googled a bit and there still does not seem a way to convert the dynamic DV metadata to HDR10+.
Watching DV content on Samsung TVs you either get broken colors or it downconverts to the inferior static regular HDR metadata.
I can't believe this stupid format war is still ongoing and the community still hasn't found a way to circumvent or crack Dolby Vision in all those years!
Was eyeing the Samsung S90C because of its massive color gamut but now I'm not so sure if it ain't better to get an LG OLED instead.
that being said , i would always buy LG again anytime.
one additional plus that you won't find in official press reviews is that you can easily root most LG TVs and install homebrew. Examples are Moonlight, kodi, input mapper, magic remote for PC etc
Well the Samsung is the better TV spec wise - it covers most of the Rec.2020 gamut so it is more futureproof. Colors are noticeably more vibrant. Also it gets above the 1000 nits for HDR which is a must for me.
Only the 77'' LG G3 is an option, it gets even brighter but gamut coverage is same as the C3 and it is massively more expensive (even with the 1000€ cashback from LG)
I was getting ready for the Samsung when I read about the Dolby Vision issue.
It seems Dolby Vision won the format war and majority of HDR releases/streaming now use the dynamic DV metadata. So getting the Samsung I will probably get a worse HDR experience.
Now is a good time to watch for Deals for the 2023 models because the 2024 models are coming out soon.
From what I've read they will have the same specs again but all models will get brighter for HDR. Samsung is going to lack Dolby support again.
So its going to be S90C vs. G3 vs. C4
well then the choice seems obvious in your case.
also, while more and more releases do have DV metadata they usually have a fallback to HDR10 or even HDR10+ which is a samsung thing iiirc
mind if i ask why you need >1000nits? Do you usually watch in a bright room?
my C9 only does 750nits but i almost never turn it on during daytime and with custom ambilight LEDs installed on the TV it gets plenty bright for my taste

No, but I want to get the highlight details as they are intended and the gold standard is 1000nits+. Took long enough for OLED to get that high, since LCD are already scratching the 3000 nit mark. But I am dead set on getting an OLED this time.
The choice is probably going to be 2024 LG or 2023 Samsung. Dolby Vision support vs. Better Colours.

If they fall back to dynamic HDR10+ it would be great. But from what I've read most releases fall back to the static metadata of HDR10 and this simply won't look as good then.
For the family cinema room I got the tcl 98 inch 98c955. Just wanted a huge ass tv for family cinema room. Its not oled but its freaking awesome for its price.
Patience paid off, I waited for the price decrease and pocketed a (fake birthday) 10% coupon just in case. Now just ordered the QE77S90C for 1979€, free delivery and got a 100€ Samsung voucher on top!
Trump would say that was a very good deal.
Apparently it is possible to mod the S90C into a S95C in the service menu, which nets over 1400 nits of peak brightness.
Only the Dolby Vision issue remains but at this price with these specs there is nothing that comes remotely close to it. Looks like the 2024 version is not only twice as expensive, it is no improvement at all (modded S90C is brighter than S90D) and you get a WOLED panel lottery on top. Couldn't be any happier, hope the delivery and set up goes well.
