More info on what a pile of shit the update is.
It's starting making more sense the more I think about it, it's just bethesda showing their credentials for the new crowd coming in from the TV show Laughing

Laughing If this was Valve, they would have bought this team for peanuts. Then officially released this mod as its own game - and probably made a better game than there last 4 released games. Just amazing to see this company fail over and over and over again.

BBC = "so why have you done this, if its essentially working for free?" great question, as i struggle to understand this. If I'm a developer passionate enough to put 4 years into a game, why wouldn't i pick up Godot or anything else and make my own game?

I guess this a win for Bethesda regardless, free dev team makes game and generates sales for free.. can't complain really.

WTF they did with the mouse? It has some... smoothing now?

In any case it's unplayable here. In main menu I have 30 / 40 FPS and in starting area it drops to 37 / 40s / 50s... FPS Laughing Facepalm

I'm still hoping for those guys to see the light and just release the mod along with instructions to revert FO4 to the previous version on steam and the previous version on GoG Everything Went Better Than Expected

Is there any way to run Special K through Mod Organizer 2?

Game is unplayable without Special K for me. So if I need mods... pfff...

I'm not that experienced with Special K but maybe you can do the same as FO3 and New Vegas? Im playing Fallout 3 with mod organizer 2 like this

Download the Special K Archive from the Stable section.

From the downloaded archive, extract SpecialK32.dll to your Fallout New Vegas root folder and rename it to dinput8.dll

Download the archive with preconfigured settings and extract its content to your root folder.

Not sure if the last point is some essential or just something you can do yourself in the special K menu in game

Please elaborate on this, men. Does it help with stuttering, fps, what? Scratch Head

From a quick search you can probably "hook it" with F4SE, which itself is loaded through MO2 and will load aux dll's if placed in the plugins folder:
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/47359?tab=posts

Quote:
If anyone is having issues running Special K with Buffout, install Special K locally and put just the .dll file into the F4SE plugin folder but leave the Special K .ini file in the root Fallout 4 folder.

I am having framerate drops / stuttering with the latest nEXt-gEN update. FPS goes down even in the 20s...

BUT! if I am starting the game via Special K the framerate is nearly perfect. No more performance issues.

I suspect it's something related to V-Sync.

The problem is, I can't use easily some mods(?). Since Mod Organizer 2 wants you to start the game via it's own path / exe. Else, mods installed via MO2 are not loaded.

Try those instructions I posted along with F4SE, then launch F4SE from MO2.
Like so:

So:

• get F4SE
• put some Special K .dll in F4SE plugin folder
• load F4SE via MO2
• swear at Todd
• pray

But:

F4SE still under dev.: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42147?tab=posts

Quote:
The 2024-04-25 Fallout 4 update (1.10.980 and later) has broken F4SE and the rest of the native code modding scene similarly to Skyrim's "Anniversary Edition" patch. I am working on an update and cannot currently offer a timeline for its availability, nor whether there will be any critical technical issues that would block an update. If not obvious already, this one is going to take much longer than normal. Do not email with questions.

Thank you for all of the support! I assume people would rather have me working on the update than making individual responses, but in general thanks for the nice words and support.

2024-04-27: The first step of the update process is done, doing a first pass at updating all of the addresses for the new version of the game. Another long step begins now, validating the addresses and seeing if there were any structure layout changes. This would not benefit from external testing.

Then you're shit out of luck and jolly well fucked.
Besides the new mod content (and even that is questionable) the new patch is fucking useless aside from some (I think) proper >60 fps implementation. But good luck with that in downtown boston and without any kind of "official" frame generation.

Yeah, it is

A lot of mods won't be updated, so the 'fixes' will likely be patches on top of those mods. If they ever come.

They should have another branch for the game that you can opt into, but they are so fucking pig headed when they break stuff. They never care.

After almost ~1900hrs I finished the game for the 2nd time. I tried to do every little thing but at around 70hrs the game kept crashing a lot for some reason. It was fine for the first ~60hrs. All DLCs complete + 60% of the main map. But then a crash every 10 minutes.

I sided with the institute this time, and the grand summation of going that path was a final mission which took maybe ~15 mins and was basically just fighting wave after wave. I guess there's no real meaningful final mission apart from the Brotherhood (which had a fully animated / action sequence). Pretty lame. I remember being this disappointed years ago the first time I finished it.

I'll keep that in mind for when i get to FO4. It's so fucking funny i've not completed a single fallout game except 3. And i've finished it 3 times now. Well, except for the DLC's they're a first now.

Found a solution:

.ESPs are now enabled with Wrye Bash and am running the game via Special K. Runs perfectly tech wise @60FPS limited, so far...

Well... perhaps 'perfect' is not the best term here, as UI is MASSIVELY fucked up in ultra-wide by Todd, but hey... can't have it all with Bethesda... Laughing

Also, an excellent mod for immersion: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/25495?tab=description -> Realistic Movement Speed for the Wasteland - Walking is faster, running is slower.

Game is Mostly Positive now on Steam.

What modpack is recommended for a fallout 4 vanilla experience? No new weapons, no new armors, no new artificial difficulty. Just vanilla enhanced

Vanilla weapons suck ass, but maybe:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/62880
https://www.wabbajack.org/modlist/wj-featured/life_in_the_ruins
https://www.wabbajack.org/modlist/wj-featured/tpf-fo4

Otherwise I'd just pick and choose, it's pretty hard to mess up FO4 modding unless you do something really dumb. It's the most stable game they've got

Not finished with Vegas yet though, needed a tiny break aftrer being overloaded with side quests and fucking resetting my choices. Mean as fuck Laughing

I started downloading loads of Vegas lists and still trying to settle on one

It's a shame you can't combine them, because one has the weapons right but not the visuals, the other has the visuals but fuck-all other content, then another has a lot of lore friendly stuff but runs like shit. Srs business when you plan to invest a couple of hundred hours!

I bet you can spend more time figuring out what you want than actual playing the game. I just go for whatever is most vanilla for my first playthrough. Always done it like this since morrowind.

For FO3 and New Vegas i went with Two wastelands and begin Again. It's a meaty package of 48 gb

Begin Again is the one I've left open on my other PC while I work today, since TTW takes so long to build / extract Very Happy

I tried Wasteland Prospects first but it's just got way too much shit in it with conflicts all over the place

Begin again ain't perfect either. I do get no error crashes, but they're very rare. Though i don't know if it's the game itself or the mod package though.

And yes, it takes forever to install Laughing
