More info on what a pile of shit the update is.
It's starting making more sense the more I think about it, it's just bethesda showing their credentials for the new crowd coming in from the TV show

If this was Valve, they would have bought this team for peanuts. Then officially released this mod as its own game - and probably made a better game than there last 4 released games. Just amazing to see this company fail over and over and over again.
BBC = "so why have you done this, if its essentially working for free?" great question, as i struggle to understand this. If I'm a developer passionate enough to put 4 years into a game, why wouldn't i pick up Godot or anything else and make my own game?
I guess this a win for Bethesda regardless, free dev team makes game and generates sales for free.. can't complain really.

I'm still hoping for those guys to see the light and just release the mod along with instructions to revert FO4 to the previous version on steam and the previous version on GoG

If anyone is having issues running Special K with Buffout, install Special K locally and put just the .dll file into the F4SE plugin folder but leave the Special K .ini file in the root Fallout 4 folder.

I am having framerate drops / stuttering with the latest nEXt-gEN update. FPS goes down even in the 20s...
BUT! if I am starting the game via Special K the framerate is nearly perfect. No more performance issues.
I suspect it's something related to V-Sync.
The problem is, I can't use easily some mods(?). Since Mod Organizer 2 wants you to start the game via it's own path / exe. Else, mods installed via MO2 are not loaded.
The 2024-04-25 Fallout 4 update (1.10.980 and later) has broken F4SE and the rest of the native code modding scene similarly to Skyrim's "Anniversary Edition" patch. I am working on an update and cannot currently offer a timeline for its availability, nor whether there will be any critical technical issues that would block an update. If not obvious already, this one is going to take much longer than normal. Do not email with questions.
Thank you for all of the support! I assume people would rather have me working on the update than making individual responses, but in general thanks for the nice words and support.
2024-04-27: The first step of the update process is done, doing a first pass at updating all of the addresses for the new version of the game. Another long step begins now, validating the addresses and seeing if there were any structure layout changes. This would not benefit from external testing.
Then you're shit out of luck and jolly well fucked.
Besides the new mod content (and even that is questionable) the new patch is fucking useless aside from some (I think) proper >60 fps implementation. But good luck with that in downtown boston and without any kind of "official" frame generation.

A lot of mods won't be updated, so the 'fixes' will likely be patches on top of those mods. If they ever come.
They should have another branch for the game that you can opt into, but they are so fucking pig headed when they break stuff. They never care.
After almost ~1900hrs I finished the game for the 2nd time. I tried to do every little thing but at around 70hrs the game kept crashing a lot for some reason. It was fine for the first ~60hrs. All DLCs complete + 60% of the main map. But then a crash every 10 minutes.
I sided with the institute this time, and the grand summation of going that path was a final mission which took maybe ~15 mins and was basically just fighting wave after wave. I guess there's no real meaningful final mission apart from the Brotherhood (which had a fully animated / action sequence). Pretty lame. I remember being this disappointed years ago the first time I finished it.
I'll keep that in mind for when i get to FO4. It's so fucking funny i've not completed a single fallout game except 3. And i've finished it 3 times now. Well, except for the DLC's they're a first now.
.ESPs are now enabled with Wrye Bash and am running the game via Special K. Runs perfectly tech wise @60FPS limited, so far...
Well... perhaps 'perfect' is not the best term here, as UI is MASSIVELY fucked up in ultra-wide by Todd, but hey... can't have it all with Bethesda...

I started downloading loads of Vegas lists and still trying to settle on one
It's a shame you can't combine them, because one has the weapons right but not the visuals, the other has the visuals but fuck-all other content, then another has a lot of lore friendly stuff but runs like shit. Srs business when you plan to invest a couple of hundred hours!
I bet you can spend more time figuring out what you want than actual playing the game. I just go for whatever is most vanilla for my first playthrough. Always done it like this since morrowind.
For FO3 and New Vegas i went with Two wastelands and begin Again. It's a meaty package of 48 gb
Begin again ain't perfect either. I do get no error crashes, but they're very rare. Though i don't know if it's the game itself or the mod package though.
So is just using the latest update without mods not the way to go for a first time play through.
I remember playing for a short time back when it was released.
