i wasn't too fond of DS cutscenes because the story was so ass pullish but there is major segments of the game where you can play for hours and hours without a single cutscene and those parts made it worth while to me.
this is a weird game, the trailers looked shit, the gameplay sounds stupid but some how it is one of the most fun experiences i've had in gaming. just traversing the world, delivering packages etc i can't explain what makes it so enjoyable but there's something to it

I'll give it another go. Sitting at home all week during chemo I'll have more time to sit through the cutscenes lol
Okay so my takeaway is i am not missing out on anything really w/o DC
Can i recycle my savegames from yarr version for the epic vereion (i.e. online)
Did shove my completed save in the legit steam version but cant remember if you have to do renaming or something. I think if you enable online shit from others you can remove it after.
Only spent an hour or 2 in it after the ending. 10eu for ultrawide support wtf so scammy.
but then after firing up the savegame i found norman standing in the middle of nowhere chapter 3 w/o a fucking clue whats going on and with a bunch of cargo on the back and myriads of popups for lost cargo and somesuch...
After 40 hours I still don't know if am having the DC. Library says it's DC, in-game menu has background showing DC, and when I first started the game it told me I got some items like power glove, patches and costume but I can't find them anywhere... I have some side-missions about Half-Life and Portal tho, which I guess should be in the DC only? But don't think DC gives any advantage or it's minimal, seems just cosmetic stuff.
But I did spend 30 hours in the 2nd area - the one with Port Knot. Preppers can give some helpful stuff when you get 3 and 4 stars. Like the backpack cover that protects some gear from the timefall. And almost finished building the whole road, at least from Port Knot to the South. Seems not many people play as very rarely I see someone put materials for roads, even when I place a sign, so I had to go around the whole area for chiral crystals, metal and ceramics...
All cutscenes seems to be skippable with ESC to pause them and then choose "Skip". Same for almost all animations so it's not that bad. Except for the stupid dead president woman's picture telling me "Thank you!" every time I recycle.
And wtf is with that retarded "Photo Mode"? Sometimes it terribly hard to open it with controller and when I press F8 from keyboard, it's locked behind Sam and can't move the camera around. Also no "save photo" ??!?! Only way to save pictures from it is using "Wn Key + ALT + Prnt Scr" key combo to auto-save it in the Video>Captures folder in Win10. How can photo mode be so frustrating for such game where one of the main points is to sightsee.
But I like the story so far. Which is very rare for me in the past few years. And on paper the gameplay sounds so damn boring but it's actually fun to play. Most of the times you just do the same shit but it's somewhat enjoyable and relaxing.
Do you have the Maser Gun? if so you have the Directors Cut.
No, but I had a mission in the first area that said "Maser Gun recommended" and I didn't play it because thought I need to unlock it some time later. But not that I googled it says that's the mission unlocking the weapon, lol. Can't get the mission now to check because Fragile can't teleport me, atm.

If you can use ziplines with attached floaters or if you can build highways up into the mountains from the middle of the map then you definitely have the DC.
At least that's what I remember reading when the DC came out.
Didn't unlock Ziplines yet and don't see any on the map. But from what I read they come a bit later in the story. I will see later if can get the Maser Gun too.

Oh man, once you start to plant ziplines here and there you will be seriously re-addicted to the game it's that good.

Indeed, im building currently a network in the mountains. Tedious but will benefit me in the end.

Aren't people in this game supposed to work to a common goal when building roads?
I dropped it for 3.5 years (chapter 6, built all the roads to that point solo), and the roads I hadn't finished building still haven't been constructed
Most likely the networking code is weird.
In my world I had to build 90% of the roads myself.
It was sad for me to see that my perfect zipline network in the mountains up to that central hub was almost completely gone when I booted the game up after directors cut dlc came out

If I understood it correctly, you build connections/affinity with other players by using/liking their constructions.
Roads/structures are then shared but still needs to be maintained by supplying them before they collapse.
I finished the game recently after a long time unplayed, I still had old connections but I guess the game filled the world with some random newer elements because I saw several bridges/rope/... anyways.
Some road section were missing though.

I also started playing this shortly ago. Only in the second hub so far but I am also VERY pleasantly surprised.
What no review or other video on this conveyed for me was that this game is actually quite "digestible" if that makes sense. I thought this game would be running around a rather empty world and carefully needing to manage your weight, but actually the missions are quite bite-sized, have a strong focus and direction and a lot variety. Not at all what I was expecting going into this.

does anyone know a good way of getting back into this game?^^
as stated above i abandoned a savegame ages ago and after reinstalling it quite some time later and firing up the savegame i got all kinds of overwhelmed and just went AWOL again...
but whenever this thread gets bumped i feel like i've missed out on something great here
... i feel like i've missed out on something great here
Oh yes you did.
But it is not too late
I don't know if you don't want to start over (maybe you should) you can always begin to watch one of these "Strory gameplay" video on Youtube and once you feel ready continue your savegame.
I did this myself when I finally decided to play The Witcher series, I just couldn't play the first one because of the gameplay and dated gfx, so I watched the whole thing on Youtube and then went directly with The Witcher 2. And I frankly don't regret it.
I might always have these on hold if I didn't do it like this
