There's some really weird performance BS going on for me with the game.
I find a spot that gives me 36fps at max settings. I lower settings to minimum and get 76fps. Then I put settings back to max, restart the game, and now I'm getting 75fps in the same spot at max settings. There's some heavy performance regression going on and I thought it was about VRAM but it's still not fixed properly by setting textures to very low. Only a restart gets me back to full performance.

last patch notes say that dual sense controller was triggering performanxe regression if used wirelessly and that it got fixed. maybe same bugs exist for other wireless hardware/controllers and they didnt fix it. Maybe try disconnecting those if you got any. just a wild thought.

I have that happen too, no controllers connected, it just randomly drops performance after a while and only restart fixes it
L.E. This seems to usually happen after long cutscenes

Have you tried dropping texture quality? My 10gb VRAM is not enough for max textures at 4K DLSS Performance. It starts off fine but eventually performance regresses. Once that happens, as soon as I set textures to high, my FPS just about doubles. If I start off with high textures the regression never happens. That doesn't explain the odd performance drops in cinematics though, since even setting textures to low doesn't help with those. |
Ok so doing this seems to have some effect. Dropped it to medium. Took longer to start the fps drop. Going to a city makes that faster though. Pretty weird.

As I wrote before I had massive drops in performance and turning off nvidia reflex fixed that.

There's many threads on Reddit about the performance regression. Even people with 4090's get it while the game is using under 10 gigs of VRAM. Someone said the problem is the game starts dipping into RAM instead of VRAM even if there's plenty of VRAM still available, but I haven't yet verified that.

Wouldn't surprise me if "Cuda systemem fallback" has something to do with it. It's such a garbage setting for memory. When using AI (Stabe Diffusion) i got a massive improvement when turning that shit off. Sometimes performance was good for a while but after a while it went to shit with it on.
Haven't tried since i don't have the game.

Quote: | Next up, let's talk about graphics cards with 8GB of VRAM - a setup that hobbled many recent PS5 to PC ports on launch. At 1440p, both the RTX 2070 Super and RTX 3070 had no issues with frame-rate drops due to VRAM running out. I also tried bumping up the resolution to 1800p with the RTX 3070 and found that after a cutscene, during a cutscene, or after fast traveling, I could see big frame-rate drops and swings as VRAM was overfilled and the game started paging to system memory. Instead of degrading texture quality, the Nixxes system for VRAM management keeps textures at high quality, but is forced to pull them from system memory at times. Unless this is changed in the future, I recommend 8GB GPUs play at a maximum of 1440p if they are using the high texture setting. If going higher-res, the medium texture setting looks competent visually and did not have the same performance pitfalls in my experience. |

That's fine and all, but if I drop textures to very low and VRAM usage drops to like 7gb and performance is still dogshit on a 10gb card unless I restart the game, their VRAM management has issues. This thing can happen and persist seemingly regardless of how much VRAM is in use.

Played through this on the PS5 earlier this year, hopefully the PC port delivers as the game was one of the more fun experiences I have had with video gaming lately, quite a tech showcasing as well even with the various limitations that the console systems do have.
And a nice improvement for the first game as for the gameplay, a lot of customization options as well for tailoring the experience to suit which is another thing the PS5 exclusives or former exclusives now I guess have also excelled at.
Burning Shores was quite a fun little experience too if a tad empty, on content but the main game is quite packed so it would probably be difficult to match.
(And anything else about the DLC would quickly go into spoiler territory.)
Looking forward to seeing how Ghost of Tsushima turns out, Sony has done a really good job so far with their PC port focus so here's hoping it keeps up.

I updated dlss to the latest version and also disabled Nvidia reflex as some people suggested and i didn't had any problems since. Cutscenes still randomly dip but gameplay is fine no need for restarts anymore

Same here, some dips during cutscenes and also after fast travelling. But it's gone again after a few seconds. The game loads really fast, so I guess there's a bit of buffering still happening.
By the way, there's a setting that shows the loading screen a bit longer, even when it's ready, for players to read the tooltips.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Initially had some odd mouse issues and did the latency fix in the Nvidia control panel and it's been flawless since. Thanks for that.

I got a bug that when I get reward for hunting arena, the game freezes.

I know with some unreal engine games like Jedi survivor. I had also that vram run out. You could solve this when you make the size of the pagefile higher. Mine is around 20 gig.

yup. You need to make an additional pagefile on a different drive than C: where you have extra space. I also make it around 20 gigs. These sony ports in particular seem to crash from this, Last of Us, Spiderman, Ratchet all were crashing during shader compilation or soon into gameplay for me. New pagefile fixed them all

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition 1.0.43.0 Release Notes
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2420110/view/4174347361773487031
Quote: | Hey everyone,
Today's update for Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on PC includes crash fixes, various bug fixes, and improvements based on player feedback.
Since the launch of the game last week, we've been closely monitoring our crash reporting system and investigating crashes submitted through our support channel. This patch includes several crash fixes and changes to further improve stability.
We've also fixed several bugs, including one that prevented players from claiming rewards at the Hunting Grounds when using mouse and keyboard controls. This patch also fixes the HDR Max Luminance slider and enables DLSS 3 Frame Generation during cutscenes. Check out the release notes below for more details.
The teams at Nixxes and Guerrilla continue to closely monitor player feedback. We are aware of other issues raised by the community and are actively working on future patches with further bug fixes and optimizations.
Release Notes
Various crash fixes and stability improvements.
Resolved an issue that prevented players from claiming rewards at the Hunting Grounds when using the mouse.
The HDR Max Luminance slider is now functioning correctly.
